Donald Glover, popular for his appearance in the cult comedy series "Community" will join the new "Spider-Man: Homecoming" film starring alongside "Captain America: Civil War" breakout star Tom Holland. Although details of Glover's character are still unknown, there are several theories pointing to who he might play in the Marvel film.

News about Glover's participation the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" was first confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Although he will not be playing the titular character, landing a role in the film is probably the closest thing the actor's fans will get.

Since 201, back when Sony decided to reboot "Spider-Man," which eventually became "The Amazing Spider-Man," supporters of Glover strongly campaigned that the role of Peter Parker should be given to the actor.

Although Sony went with Andrew Garfield instead, Glover still became a major part of a "Spider-Man" project by providing the voice for Miles Morales in Disney XD's "Ultimate Spider-Man." Fans are well aware that Morales, a teenager of Black Hispanic descent, became the second character to carry the title of the web-crawling superhero.

Many fans are hoping that Glover will portray Morales in "Homecoming." However, even if this happens, they probably won't be able to see him wearing the "Spider-Man" costume and carrying out the superhero's duties in the upcoming film. That's because in the comics, Morales became the new "Spider-Man" following Parker's death.

Aside from Morales, another character that Glover could play is the villain Chameleon, according to Comic Book Resources. This character is a master of disguise, which could really work well with Glover's charisma and versatility as an actor

Or, Glover could end up playing the role of the Prowler. In the comics, the Prowler, also known as Hobie Brown, is a friend of Parker's and sometimes joins him in his crime-fighting activities.

Of course, these are just theories and should not be taken seriously since it is not yet confirmed who Glover will play in the film. As for "Spider-Man: Homecoming," the movie is scheduled to come out on July 7, 2017.

Aside from Holland and Glover, the film will also star Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Michael Baribieri and Marisa Tomei.
