The CW’s long-running series ‘Supernatural’ could come to an end after the 300th episode. The show’s stars, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, have shared their plan of at least reaching the 300th episode of the haunting series before exiting.
The widely recognized show has already come up with 241 episodes and will air its 12th season in October. According to Padalecki and Ackles, who play siblings Sam and Dean Winchester, they can still experience the “magic” of being involved in the series. However, they believed such feelings would someday stop.
“If we don’t make it to 300, I think Ackles and I will both be truly bummed,” Padalecki said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “When we get to 300, I think Ackles and I will think it might be time to say bye. There’s a chance that changes, but we certainly do not take it for granted that we’re going to make it to 300.”
Ackles also shared that they would only say goodbye to ‘Supernatural’ if they weren’t so interested in starring in the show anymore.
“To this day, I have not really ever sensed that from myself or him,” he said, while adding: “They’re paying us to bring that little bit of magic to what they wrote, and I still feel that magic today. The day that I don’t feel that magic will be a very sad day, and I hope that day never comes. I’d like to get to 300 before that day comes.”
The ‘Supernatural’ 300th episode will be the 13th episode of its season 14, if the upcoming season 12 and season 13 will be comprised of 23 episodes each. According to executive Bob Singer, they might end the award-winning series when it reaches halfway through the said installments to recognize the 300th episode as the final one.
“We talked about wanting to be able to know when our end was, and if it was to be, let’s say, 300 episodes, we could tell a 13-episode story,” Singer explained. “I think it would be bad for this show to just ride off in the sunset without a finale. I think we’ve earned that. I don’t know what the finale is, but we’d certainly like to do one.”
The ‘Supernatural’ 200th episode was met with a celebration by offering a tribute to viewers during the tenth season. Titled ‘Fan Fiction,’ such episode focused on a high school musical play drawn out from ‘Supernatural’ stories made by Chuck Shurley (Rob Benedict).
The stars of the show have previously opened up about how they prefer to end ‘Supernatural.' In a past interview with Padalecki, the 34-year-old actor said he wanted the Winchester brothers to “go out in a blaze of glory.”
For Ackles, he wanted the ‘Supernatural’ ending to retain its main concept, which is love between the brothers. Dean making a huge sacrifice for Sam is his ideal finale.
‘Supernatural’ season 12 will make its way to The CW on October 13 in the US.
