Microsoft is expected to unveil the new Surface Pro 4, and there have been a lot of rumors surrounding this device as far as the release dates and specs are concerned. According to Express, the Surface Pro 4 is going to be the next generation of laptop-tablet hybrid that will essentially look like its predecessor, but with a larger display. The issue is it will have almost no bezel to support it. In other words, its display will run to the edge of its display. According to The Verge, the resolution could be as high as 4K or even 5K.
Sources say that it will use "smart frame technology" to adjust the amount of screen available to users as they switch orientations and modes. The Surface Pro 4 will have a 13.3-inch display in notebook mode, and then a tablet mode will darken parts of the display, reducing the screen down to 12 inches. Why the shrinking screen? The user has to put their fingers somewhere and with no bezel, and something has to give.
There are a lot of rumors that are pointing to the Surface Pro 4 having a large display, possibly at 14 inches. There are also rumors that there will be a new Surface Mini of some sort, and that could either be a smaller version of the current Surface or maybe the Mini could be tablet size.
In addition to the possible screen sizes, there could also be some improvements to the Surface Pro 4 pen as well. Microsoft has apparently acquired some Surface Pen technology from N-trig earlier in the year, and it could be enough to give the Apple Pencil a run for its money.
Another rumor is that the Surface Pro 4 is expected to have an Intel RealSense 3D camera. Not only is this more advanced, but it can also be used to for Windows 10's new facial recognition feature. This will allow logging in just by looking. Speaking of logging in, there will also be a fingerprint scanner as well as the facial recognition.
As far as other specifications are concerned, it can be expected that Microsoft will attempt to really make this year's Surface Pro 4 a laptop-killer with possibly 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of space.
Besides the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Mini, Microsoft is also expected to announce other new devices like the Lumia 950, Lumia 950XL, and Lumia 550.
