The 6-hour stand-off in the suburb of Ingleburn in Sydney, New South Wales ended on March 7 after local police confirmed that the lone gunman has been killed. However, before the situation ended, the suspect managed to shoot and kill one victim and wound two others.

According to investigators, the three victims were brothers who operated a local construction company. These individuals, namely Terry, Mark and Michael Bassal, reportedly had dealings with Inline Signs, a signage company where the suspect worked, who has been identified as Wayne Williams, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

However, according to eyewitness accounts, the professional relationship between the two parties went awry after the brothers found the work provided by Inline Signs unsatisfactory. They then requested a meeting at the company's factory located at the corner of Stennett and Heald roads.

But, shortly after arriving at the venue, Williams opened fire on the brothers which immediately led to the death of the brother. Mark and Terry, on the other hand, were also shot but survived.

Police officers then arrived on scene at around 11:46 am and immediately took the two wounded victims to local hospitals. By that time, Williams had already barricaded himself inside the building with three hostages. The police then deployed a tactical unit to surround the building and monitor the situation.

Officers then arrested the suspect's father, Peter Williams, for discharging a firearm in public. Company owner Chantalle Strnad was also charged with refusing to answer the officers' questions, according to the Daily Mail.

The law enforcers also established an exclusion zone around the building to prevent bystanders and civilians from entering. People inside nearby establishments were also evacuated from the area to prevent additional casualties.

Hours went by and the stand-off between law enforcers and the gunman, who was believed to be wielding a long rifle, continued until late afternoon. Then, at around 5 p.m., three people emerged from the Inline Sign's warehouse. The police then confirmed that these were the hostages.

After entering the building, the law enforcers confirmed that the gunman has died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, the Herald Sun has learned.

Law enforcers are still investigating the incident. Although it is widely believed that the shooting broke out due to the business dealings between the victims and suspect, they are still verifying if it is linked to the Finks, an outlaw motorcycle club that Williams was a member of.
