Team of Miracles: We Will Rock You Wins Hollywood's 2010 Golden Angel Award

Produced by Hong Kong Media Evangelism, Team of Miracles: We Will Rock You, featuring an amicable cast of Hong Kong and mainland faces, including Eric Suen and TVB actress Gigi Lai in her last cinema role, received the Golden Angel Award Outstanding Film of Hollywood’s 2010 Sixth Chinese American Film Festival, making it the first Hong Kong gospel film to receive such honor.

On November 30, the casts and the behind-the-scenes staffs together gathered to celebrate this glory. That night, they’ve also invited a dozen homeless people and families living in single apartment unit rented to multiple tenants. Their common hope is to see that this award can once again ignite the passion of the public to show their concerns toward the homeless people and disadvantaged groups.

Based upon the true story of a Christian social worker Wai-Tung Ng, who helped vagrant to regain their will to work hard, The Team of Miracles: We Will Rock You was released in 2009. The movie director Adrian Kwan was moved to tears as he delivered his dedication speech. He said filming gospel movies is hoping to “bring the light to the dark places”- the efforts of the entire film did not go to waste.

Kwan said that although he has been filming gospel movies for ten years, many people did not know what the film is about before it was awarded, so he has contemplated about giving up. It meant a lot for him for the film to win the Golden Angel Award Best Film, for it proved to him that that the many years of hard work has received its merits, which will be a motivation for him to continue directing relevant movies in the future.

Together with the dozen vagrants and low income families, the casts watched the film. Eric Suen, who starred as the passionate social-worker Tung, said, “This time receiving this award is like an injection of a dose of heart-strengthening shot, but what is more important is that it can stir up society’s concern towards the problem of homelessness!”

Meanwhile, another mainland star-cast Max Zhang announced that his wife, Ada Choi Sui-Fen, is pregnant, which meant double good news for him. As the holidays are getting closer, the casts also personally handed out gifts to the homeless people and low-income families that night.

The Team of Miracles: We Will Rock You is based upon a true story of the Dawn Soccer Team, consisted of homeless people, that was formed by the Society for Community Organization (SOCO) in Hong Kong. In recent years, they have continuously participated in the annual Homeless World Cup organized by the International Network of Street Papers (INSP).

According to Hong Kong Commercial Newspaper, Wai-Tung Ng, the current team manager and SOCO staff, said that they will unite with Wofoo Social Enterprises to apply for the right to host the 2014 Homeless World Cup in Hong Kong. He revealed that The Homeless World Cup organizing committee thinks that since Hong Kong has participated in the last six years, there is a very high chance for their application to be approved. While the event locations and funding would require the support of the government, he has already held a meeting with the government and will continue to communicate through email.

“The government has not refused, which is good news,” he said.

Andrew Yuen Man-Fai, executive director of Media Evangelism Hong Kong, expressed his hopes that this award can cause the public to care more about the situation of the vagrants and the homeless people and to extend their helping hands.
