“The Chimes”, a gospel album produced by Roger & Henry Chung and a group of experienced musicians, broke new records – it was nominated in five categories of the 2009 CASH Golden Sail awards of Hong Kong.
The nominations are:
CASH Song of the Year: "The Chimes" (Henry & Roger Chung)
Best Melody: "The Chimes" (Roger Chung)
Best Lyrics: "I Have a Dream" (Henry & Roger Chung)
Best Vocal Duet: "A Child at Heart" (Mimi Lo/Roger Chung)
Best Performance by a Male Artist: "The Chimes" (Roger Chung)
To be nominated among the hundreds of contemporary songs is not something simple. Henry expressed that they are grateful to the judge panelists for giving it this opportunity to be nominated.
Henry said that although they don’t have much confidence in winning the awards, they already feel honored to be nominated. In Hong Kong, Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH) is a publically recognized organization that musician respect, so it has a certain degree of influence, he said.
“To be nominated is already something very special, but it is very glorious – this must be God’s work,” he said. In addition, it is also their honor to be placed among other nominees such as Calvin Poon Yuen-Leung, who are the seniors in the music industry.
For “The Chimes” to be nominated, Henry believes that the significance is that it will help promote Christian music in the contemporary music industry as the salt and the light and allow more people to get to know gospel music.
Since its release in July, “The Chimes” album climbed to the top selling record album in HMV and all Christian bookstores’ top CD selling chart within a month. Until now, over 7,000 copies have been sold and a third edition has been released, which has around 2,000 copies.
The annual CASH Golden Sail Music Awards was inaugurated to recognize outstanding musical works as well as vocal performances of musical works first commercially released or performed in Hong Kong within a specified period of the past years. Judging is based on artistic, creative and technical achievements of each piece of work or recorded performance.
