Considering that Skyrim was a huge hit for Bethesda, it stands to reason that there would be a sequel. Skyrim, or The Elder Scrolls 5, is the hit for fantasy gamers that is up there with the post-apocalyptic series Fallout. It stands to reason that since Skyrim was such a huge hit when it was released in 2011, it will have a sequel. The issue is that most games have their sequels five years later, but it could take longer for The Elder Scrolls 6, as Bethesda says.
According to Parent Herald, Bethesda PR and Marketing Vice President Pete Hines supported an E3 2016 statement by executive producer Todd Howard that The Elder Scrolls 6 is on the way. Unfortunately, it will take years before it will launch, according to Howard.
Hines stated at E3 2016, the big video game convention that was held two weeks ago, that Bethesda is focused on one of the major games announced, and that The Elder Scrolls 6 (which could be called Argonia or even Skyrim 2) has been "put on hold". In fact, there will be two other games that the company is working on ahead of The Elder Scrolls 6. Not much is known about these two games, but they are going to be as big as the offerings from The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.
The reasons for it being put on hold has to do with the technology. With The Elder Scrolls 6 promising years of development, chances are the game will be available for the Xbox Two or Sony PlayStation 5. It sounds like there is going to be something special, but that could be something that we don't even imagine having now.
I mean if The Elder Scrolls 6 is out in a few years, we might have completely VR systems by 2020. There is a quote from Howard that says: "I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, "That sounds like you don't even have the technology-how long is that going to take?"
I'm not certain what will change for the gaming series, but the biggest challenges that developers have is to keep games that are part of a series fresh. Players don't want a repetition of the game with only a few upgrades, so that is the challenge that Bethesda has.
So yes, it will be years before The Elder Scrolls 6 is released. In the meantime, there is a Skyrim Special Edition made for the current generation systems of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for October. Gotta Be Mobile suggested 37 new mods that they want for the PS4 and Xbox One edition of Skyrim, so who knows what The Elder Scrolls 6 will have.
