Many tuned in on Sunday to catch the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead with "Last Day on Earth".  A lot of fans were disappointed by the ending, and there are spoilers in this article as to what happened (or as most fans were expecting, didn't happen).  It's pretty clear that The Walking Dead will be back for Season 7, and this is what to expect from it as well as the release date.

Vox calls the Season 6 Finale of The Walking Dead "the worst episode the show has ever done."  Part of it had to do with the "truly awful and inexplicable cliffhanger".  Yes, The Walking Dead is one of those shows that was never on the fence when it came to cancellation, and thanks to its graphic novel source material, it will always have some story to tell (so far).

All the fans knew that Negan would appear on the last episode of the season, and he would be played by acting veteran Jeffrey Dean Morgan.  Negan is a huge antagonist from the comics, and he makes his grand entrance by killing Glenn (at least in the comics he does).  Naturally, all the fans were wondering if the show would deviate from its source material, and perhaps Negan would kill some other character, or the teleplay writers would go a completely different direction.

Instead, the final shot is the point of view of Negan's target as he swings his bat (that he refers to as Lucille) toward the head.  The screen goes black as red blood trickles down the camera lens, and it is not known who gets hit.

At this point, it could be anyone's guess as Rick, Carl, Glenn, Maggie, Daryl, Michonne, Abraham, Sasha, Eugen, Rosita, and Aaron are all prisoners as Negan gives a speech that ends with one of them getting smacked, presumably to death.  BGR states that it is probably not Rick or Carl, as these characters have a sense of protection being that they have lasted so long.

If it isn't Glenn, then the TV show is seriously deviating from the source material with a character death, but it isn't like it hasn't done that before.  Considering that Michonne and Daryl are fan-favorites, it isn't likely to be them, unless their contract ran out or something.  By the way, Daryl isn't even in the comic, so he is actually quite expendable.

Fans are really upset over the ending.  This season already had a faked death of Glenn which led to fan outcry, but to end this season with perhaps the death of someone will guarantee that everyone will be tuning in for Season 7.

So when is the release date for The Walking Dead Season 7?  According to the International Business Times, it will probably air on October 1, 2016.  That, or perhaps a week after that, but the show has a history of airing in early October.

Assuming Season 7 follows the source material, it will focus on the aftermath of the death of this character.  In the comics, Rick conceded to defeat from Negan, and it looked like he was truly defeated in spirit.  It turned out that this was just subterfuge, and Rick went and recruited more people to wage war against Negan and his followers.  This will probably be the focus of what will undeniably be an action-packed Season 7.
