Dubbed as one of the most recognizable players in the National Basketball Association's world, Jeremy Lin shared his fair share of experiences being bullied while he was still a kid. And this is why he wants to encourage the bullied and discourage bullying in and outside the school.
Lin shared in a video how he was bullied because of his race. He said in the video that "growing up Asian American and trying to play basketball was a bit tough" as it garnered him more bullying from the school. He then went on to share about the time when he lost control and responded negatively to one of the bullies.
"I remember one time I got really upset, kind of lost control and just responded really negatively. My coach told me after the game, 'Jeremy, when people say that to you they're trying to get in your head,'" Lin stated on the video posted at Christianpost.com.
He went on to say that the lesson he learned from being bullied is that bullies bully other people because of insecurities they have in themselves.
"Don't let anyone else tell you who you are or what you can or can't do. Definitely look inside yourself, have confidence in yourself, believe in yourself and understand what makes you such a unique and special person. Everybody has different and really cool characteristics and talents," Lin added on the video footage.
This video is Lin's show of support for the White House public campaign against the bullying of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, reported Christian Post. With the slogan "Act to Change", the campaign aims to discourage bullying through video testimonials of entertainers, athletes and other influential people as well as through music.
In a separate report earlier this month, Jeremy Lin also spread hope to his supporters by soliciting prayer requests and praying for them. Jeremy shared a chain email showing prayer requests submitted to the JLIN team and asking fans to pray for them for the requests. Prayers were divided into seven categories: healing, families, personal devotions, churches and missionaries, the salvation of lost souls, school finances, and works, and chose to end the prayer requests with petitions on global issues.
"Please feel free to share with others you think would be interested. So much of what happens is out of our control, but prayer has been a place I have consistently found peace with God," Lin said on his website.
Jeremy Lin is one of the fastest rising stars in the world of basketball league and was praised by NBA Hall of Famer Charlotte Hornets owner, Michael Jordan saying that Lin is going to be the "biggest acquisition" Charlotte Hornets ever had.
