Game developer Ubisoft has confirmed on Tuesday that its third person tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege, is still on track for release later this fall as originally scheduled. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One game consoles.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told investors during a conference call that another triple-A title, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, will also be released in October, reported Gamespresso.com.

During the conference call, Guillemot said Ubisoft would stop developing games for last-gen consoles. The move is an indication that the era of next generation game console has arrived, the report said.

A separate report by Gamespot.com quoted Guillemot as telling Ubisoft's investors that he expects Rainbow Six: Siege to become one of the best-selling shooter games in the firm's history, and can surpass Far Cry 4.

Guillemot told the company investors, "Over its lifetime, we believe Rainbow Six: Siege has the potential to become the highest-selling shooter in Ubisoft's history." Guillemot's statement underscores Ubisoft's high hopes for the newest installation of the Rainbow Six series.

CFO Alain Martinez also echoed Guillemot's optimism. He said that Rainbow six games usually sell at least three million units. The Far Cry 4 already sold seven million units this year, he added. Despite this, Martinez said, "We believe that Rainbow Six--because of replayability and multiplayer--might have a potential to [do] better than Far Cry over its lifetime."

However, Guillemot made it clear that Ubisoft does not expect Rainbow Six: Siege to achieve this feat during the firm's current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2016), but insisted the prediction is over the game's lifetime.

He went on to say, "It's very important to consider that this game will continue to live for a long time as we will introduce new content on a regular basis because it will be a multiplayer game."

Guillemot described Rainbow Six: Siege's replayability "will be key to the game's success."

Ubisoft has not yet released a specific release date for Rainbow Six - Siege but Guillemot hinted that the launch would be between October and the end of the year.

According to Gamerant.com, Ubisoft is investing heavily on Rainbow Six Siege's post-launch support to ensure they meet sales target. The company is expecting the game to have a much longer lifespan than most current games tend to enjoy.

Industry insiders believe Ubisoft is not planning to release more Rainbow Six sequels but focus on the base game of Rainbow Six Siege with DLC and content updates to help extend its life.
