The Kendrick Brothers have released the highly-anticipated trailer for "Overcomer," their new drama starring Alex Kendrick, Priscilla Shirer, and Shari Rigby. The sports themed-drama focuses on the subject of identity and stars Kendrick as a high school basketball coach and Shirer as a school principal.

Reads the film synopsis: "Life changes overnight for coach John Harrison when his high school basketball team's state championship dreams are crushed under the weight of unexpected news. When the largest manufacturing plant in town suddenly shuts down and hundreds of families begin moving away, John must come to grips with the challenges facing his family and his team. Urged by the school's principal to fill-in and coach a sport he doesn't know or like, John is frustrated and questioning his worth... until he crosses paths with a student struggling with her own journey."

"Overcomer" follows the success of "War Room," which grossed more than $74 million at the box office; "Facing the Giants," and "Fireproof." The film's title is inspired by 1 John 5:5, which reads, "Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"

Opening nationwide on August 23, "Overcomer" dares to leave viewers filled with hope, inspired to dream, and asks the question: what do you allow to define you?

In a previous interview with The Gospel Herald, Alex Kendrick said that the brothers' "number one goal in making movies has always been, 'How can we advance the kingdom of God, and how can we take the Gospel to the ends of the earth?'"

"God has given us such a privileged opportunity through a relationship with Jesus Christ to approach Him for whatever our needs are. In our generation, we will only survive as a Church and really evangelize the world if we will first fight out our battles in prayer," he said.

"Overcomer" is directed by Alex Kendrick (War Room) and produced by Stephen Kendrick (War Room), Aaron Burns (Beyond the Mask) and Justin Tolley (Indivisible) with a screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. "Overcomer" was filmed throughout June and July in Columbus, GA.
