Following the New York Jets' disappointing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, the team could look to release quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick from the roster or at least replace him with his backup Geno Smith.

During Week 3 of the 2016 NFL season, the Jets went up against the Chiefs at the Arrowhead Stadium. The New York franchise just came from a close win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. However, last Sunday's game proved to be a very different story for the Jets.

In the recent match, the Jets lost and ended with an embarrassing score of 3-24. The team's loss was attributed to the performance of Fitzpatrick, who threw six interceptions during the game.

Feeling the effects of his mistakes, Fitzpatrick walked back to the locker room with his head low.

"It's flushed," he said after the game. "It was pretty easy to try to forget about that one. It was so bad, and there were so many poor things on my part that happened in that game, that you want to put it behind you as fast as you can."

"It's a hard day for me to come in [Monday], after we lost that game because of my performance," he added. "We don't really need to try to put it on anything else. I think that was pretty evident. To walk in and have to face the guys, it's not an easy thing to do."

Following the huge loss, Fitzpatrick may not get the opportunity to redeem himself in the team's upcoming Week 4 game. Due to his blunders, he could get permanently replaced by Smith.

Smith has been with the Jets since 2013 and already has plenty of experience standing in for Fitzpatrick. Needless to say, he has the skills to serve as the team's new starter.

However, during the times when he temporarily replaced Fitzpatrick, the Jets still went back to the 33-year-old quarterback whenever he came back. For the team, he will always be its quarterback.

But, if the Jets' 2016 record continues to dip, the team could make a drastic change in its lineup by taking away Fitzpatrick and replacing him with Smith for the season. Doing so will probably give the team a better chance of winning games.
