2K Sports has kept to their promise, rolling out WWE 2K17's Hall of Fame Showcase on February 21. What makes this particular Hall of Fame Showcase release so special? For starters, this is the last DLC content for the moment, despite being the very first Showcase release. What is the Hall of Fame Showcase all about in the first place? Well, a whole lot of it does point back to the previous year’s match-based unlockable format, where these matches are supposedly connected to members of the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame class.
Without much further ado, here is a quick breakdown on the matches that will be part of the Hall of Fame Showcase for easy reference.
- Cactus Jack & Diamond Dallas Page vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael "P.S." Hayes & Jimmy "Jam" Garvin) - WCW Saturday Night 1992
- The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael "P.S." Hayes & Buddy Roberts) vs. Kerry Von Erich & Kevin Von Erich - WCCW 1986
- Ivory vs. Jacqueline (SmackDown 2000)
- Sting (gold and black tights) vs. Ric Flair - WCW Clash of the Champions 1988
- Sting (nWo Wolfpac ring gear) vs. Bret Hart - WCW Halloween Havoc 1998
- Papa Shango vs. The Godfather - Dream Match
- Big Boss Man (with Albert) vs. Big Show - Armageddon 1999
It is also interesting to note that all of the characters involved, as well as the respective arenas, will also be made available to the different modes that can be found in the game. These game modes will include the likes of Universe, My Career, and Exhibition, among others. Certainly it should be incentive enough for WWE 2K17 gamers to pick up this final DLC for the moment in order to enhance their digital wrestling experience, right? After all, there is nothing quite like having a blast from the past, especially when you have luminaries like the above mentioned to be part of the Hall of Fame Showcase DLC.
Not only that, it is nice to see how WWE has more or less consolidated the wrestling world into just one federation, and the “poorer brother” (or at the very least, that is my perception based on the fact that I grew up in the era of WCW and WWF) known as WCW has its stable of wrestlers under the WWE banner for quite some time now. Who can forget the Sting, whom I deem to be the Ultimate Warrior’s clone? To see him feature in at least two matches under the Hall of Fame Showcase is certainly a job well done, as it does not depict any kind of favoritism to gamers and fans alike.
Those who are interested in the WWE 2K17 Hall of Fame Showcase will be able to enjoy it on the Sony PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Regardless of the platform on which you enjoy WWE 2K17, you will still have to fork out $9.99 for it as a standalone DLC. Of course, folks who had the foresight to pick up the Season Pass need not fret at all, since the Hall of Fame Showcase can be downloaded for free.
