All eyes are on this Wednesday's Google event for release date information on Android L and the newest devices in the Nexus line. But will this October 15th event, originally thought to happen on October 16th, finally bring out the Nexus X and Nexus 9 to the table as expected?

Nexus X

While Nexus 6 would be the logical name of Google's next smartphone, some say that it will most likely be called either the Nexus X or, less likely, the Nexus 5 2014. The main reason that Google may be shying away from the Nexus 6 name is the fact that it's the name of an advanced series of replicants (cyborgs) in the 1982 film Blade Runner.

Either way, the Nexus X will release with Android L installed from day one, so it's most likely to come out as the updated operating system's flagship device, right along with the Nexus 9 tablet.

Nexus 9

The tablet entry in the latest Nexus line is expected to sport an 8.9-inch display and Nvidia's Tegra K1 chip. It's also expected to run Android L right out of the box, meaning it will most likely launch on the same day as the Nexus X and the operating system itself (currently rumored to be November 1).

But one unconfirmed report claims that the Nexus 9 will cost $399 and be available in stores on November 3rd, with pre-order beginning on October 15. It's also said that HTC's Nexus 9 will not be exclusively available through the Google Play store, as with previous devices. This opens the Nexus 9 up for a wider potential market.

Other expected announcements during Wednesday's event include the Android Wear 2.0 gadget OS for wearable devices and Android TV.
