The third season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will premiere in September and is expected to raise the level of action and excitement. In the two-part Season 2 finale S.O.S., viewers were provided hints of a parallel secret superhero team project, alongside the Avengers.

In the final moments of S.O.S. S.H.I.E.L.D. director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) was seen handing Skye (Chloe Bennet) a nicely-on-brand blue file containing details of the new superhero project. The file is speculated to include members of the soon-to-be created superhero team, different from the Avengers, Earth's mightiest heroes, said Den of Geek.

True to the tradition of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. of recruiting people with special abilities, the new superhero team will also focus on people with special powers but they will be operating more covertly than the Avengers. Skye reminded Coulson of her mother's protective attitude towards inhumans. She told Coulson upon signing up for the project, "People like me need to be kept a secret. Not like the Avengers out in the open. If we do this, we need to be...."

To which Coulson quickly butted in, "Anonymous," avoiding the word "secret."

Coulson then assured Skye that the idea of the project is to enable its members to become anonymous, but added the superhero team project needs to be done. He told Skye, "We have to do this, we don't have a choice. It may feel like things have cooled down right now, but this [gestures to the sling covering his missing hand], this is my permanent reminder that we'll always be paying the price. That we'll never get ahead of the consequences that I, that you, that S.H.I.E.L.D., have set in motion."

The teaser for Season 3 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. further saw Coulson telling Skye, "This ripple won't fade. It'll grow and grow until it's a tidal wave." The final frames cut away showing Jiaying's Diviner-laced inhuman-powers-inducing Terrigen Mist Crystals dissolving into the ocean and consumed by fish that eventually ended up on store shelves. Now, we know Terrigen is harmful to humans so expect the substance to cause problem in the next episodes because of the leak.

In an interview with IGN, Executive Producer Jeffrey Bell Bell assured fans of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that all of the open ended storylines will be dealt with in Season 3.

Bell also teased that viewers should play special attention to Grant Ward's (Brett Dalton) character which continues to evolve since Season 1 and 2.  He told IGN, "...after these events at the end of these last two episodes -- finally he has a personal vendetta against Coulson and his team in a way he didn't before because he can now point to them as the reason, whether rightly or wrongly, that he killed the woman he loved. By saying he wants to get closure - and we've seen what that's meant in the past -- I think in many ways that means he's going to be a much more terrifying person."

Bell also hinted that Coulson could get a robo hand.  Caulson lost his hand in Season 2 and Bell said this would give them "a lot of fun exploring the stories" for Coulson's replacement hand "both psychologically as well as physically."

He said, "We think there's a lot of fun to be had with both the emotional fallout of losing your right hand or left hand - losing a hand - as well as [what] we do within the Marvel universe. What does it mean to get a replacement hand? Coulson has never been a specialist soldier. I mean, he fights well, he shoots well, but he's never been, you know, 'I now want a magic hand.' But he is in the Marvel Universe so we can have a lot of fun stories exploring what that means."
