Android 6.0 Marshmallow Upgrade Release Date For Motorola Moto X 2014, 2015; Moto G3, G2 For Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile

Since the rollout of Android M (otherwise known as version 6.0 or Marshmallow) has started almost two months ago, Google, makers of the Android operating system, made certain that it came to their smartphones first.  After that, it is slowly coming to other Android smartphones like those from Motorola. This is what is known about the Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date for Motorola Moto X 2014, 2015; Moto G3, G2 for U.S. Carriers like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile.

The Indian Express reports that Motorola has started rolling out the Marshmallow upgrade to the Moto X Style in India.  This confirms what we have reported before with the release of Android M to the Moto X Style (2015) and the Moto X (2014) in both India and Brazil.

A recent report from Neurogadget said that T-Mobile's Moto X Pure Edition will also receive the Android Marshmallow update soon.  In fact, it is confirmed for update by Q1 2016, and it could receive the latest Android OS this month.  However, this has not been confirmed by Motorola. Not only that, the Moto X Pure Edition will have to pass the soak test before its official release, and that will take more than a week.

The release date of the Moto G series is expected to arrive on the 3rd Generation sometime in November and the 2nd Generation sometime in December. This is again to be taken with agrain of salt that comes with Android release dates.

Generally, the rule with Android upgrade rollouts is that the newer devices get it first, and then it trickles down to the old ones.  In the case of some Motorola phones, such as the E Series, they will not be receiving any Android 6.0 upgrade at all.  Also, once the rollout does become available, it can often vary from carrier to carrier, like the US. Has Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

So it looks like it might be a while before the Marshmallow update hits other Motorola phones, the following Motorola phones are expected to receive their Marshmallow upgrade, according to Motorola:

  • Moto X Play
  • Moto G 3rd Gen.
  • DROID Turbo 2
  • DROID Maxx 2
  • Moto G (2nd Gen.)
  • DROID Turbo

According to the Latin Post, there is another way that some Motorola users can get the update to Marshmalllow now, and it involves CyanogenMod.  These are flashing custom ROMs made for unlocked Android devices, and requires unlocking the bootloader on devices before the installation which can void the factory warranty.

In other words, it is not recommended trying one of these nightly updated builds of CyanogenMod's latest custom Android ROM of Android M unless you know what you are doing.  If you are willing to take the technical risk, the CyanogenMod blog has it or the Moto X 2014 otherwise known as "victara."
