With the release of the Motorola Moto G and X phone series, there has been a lot of demand as to what will be in store for the 3rd Generation or 2015 Moto G and Moto X series. Fortunately, Motorola has recently handed out press information for the release date of the 2015 Moto G and Moto X series of smartphones. As for the 1st and 2nd Generation of Moto G and Moto X, the Android update to that will be coming soon.
According to Gotta Be Mobile, it would appear that Motorola will confirm a new lineup of smartphones for 2015 to be announced on July 28th. Motorola has sent out invites formally inviting the press to see its new smartphones in New York City on that particular date.
It is believed that the new Moto G will have a 5-inch 720p HD display with a quad-core processor and 1 to 2 GB of RAM, coming in 8 or 16 GB storage configurations, a better than 13 Megapixel camera, and a decent size 2,700 mAh battery with Android 5.1.1 right out of the box. Other rumored specs include a Quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, Dual front facing speakers, and 4G LTE.
There is a report from a leakster on Twitter @evleaks that this year Motorola is going to make the Moto G even better. This leakster says that the 3rd Generation will support Moto Maker, as well as the entire lineup of Motorola smartphones in 2015.
As for the Moto X, it could be the "best smartphone ever" according to a separate report from Gotta Be Mobile. It will also have a 2K resolution display, a bigger battery, an improved camera, and other new features to compare with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6.
It is possible that there will be another version of the Moto X revealed known as the Moto X Sport. This is a 5.2 or 5.5 inch Moto XL smartphone that will be "more rugged, have a rubber and aluminum design, and be fully waterproof, not just water-resistant".

1st and 2nd Generation Moto X
A report from the International Business Times says that the Moto X from 2014 and the Moto X from 2013 are currently receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
The 2nd Generation Moto X has reached full deployment stage for AT&T and Verizon users of the this phone. This is according to David Schuster, Motorola's senior director of software product management and has kind of become the head spokesman for this issue with the 5.1 update. By the way, if you have the Moto X 2nd Gen Pure Edition through T-Mobile, then the Android 5.1 Lollipop update was available to you as early as June 26.
As for the first generation of the Moto X, the Android 5.1 soak test has begun for Verizon and AT&T, which means that it will be available for users of both those subscribers soon. So far, there doesn't seem to be any word about T-Mobile and Sprint.
1st and 2nd Generation Moto G
SlashGear states that the original Moto G LTE, not the first Moto G, will be attaining Android 5.1 Lollipop "this afternoon". Please keep in mind that this report is two days old, which means that if you are using this device, it should be available. The unlocked version of the device will be first, and then carrier versions, so you might not have access to Android 5.1 just yet. This report did say that all Moto G models are expected to jump to Android 5.1 Lollipop before the end of the month.
So look to July 28th as Motorola unveils the newest versions of the Moto G and Moto X phone series. For those who have the older versions, hopefully you will get your Android 5.1 or 5.1.1 upgrade, or wait for the latest version of Android, also known as Android M.
