Darren Collison, the point guard for the Sacramento Kings, was arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting a woman in Northern California. Sources, however, did not reveal the name of the victim but indicated that she could be the NBA star's spouse or cohabitant.

As noted by ESPN, law enforcers responded to the California home after receiving reports of a possible domestic violence case. Upon their arrival, they saw the woman who looked physically injured.

Collison was then arrested by authorities and was brought to the Placer County Jail in Auburn. The athlete was then charged with one count of corporal injury as well as driving will using a suspended license.

Hours after he was arrested, Collison was released after he posted bail amounting to $55,000. He is scheduled to return to court on July 11.

The Sacramento franchise has already been made aware of the incident and noted through a press release that it is currently looking into the matter. The team also said that once it has gathered all the necessary information regarding the issue, it will proceed to act accordingly.

"We've been made aware of the situation," the Kings stated according to Bleacher Report. "The Sacramento Kings condemn violence of any kind. We are gathering additional information, and once all facts are known, we will take appropriate steps."

It is not yet clear what will happen to Collison, but if found guilty, he could end up spending about two to four years in a state prison. He could also get slapped with a $6,000 fine or a combination of both.

Aside from these, this incident could seriously jeopardize his professional career not only with the Kings but in the NBA since the league, and its franchises take matters such as this very seriously.

Collison has been with the Kings since 2014. He made his NBA debut in 2009 after being drafted by the New Orleans Hornets. As one of the high-profile prospects during that year's draft event, he was selected as the 21st pick in the first round.
