8Bitdo's Retro Receiver, An Answer To NES Classic Edition's Short Controller Cable

The recently launched NES Classic Edition is nothing short of a success. Nintendo's latest console has been selling really well. You will probably find it hard to purchase one since it's mostly sold out. However, this overwhelming reception does not reflect the only one criticism on the old-school console, its short controller cable. There are several solutions to this obvious problem. One of them is 8Bitdo's Retro Receiver.

8Bitdo has released the new version of its Retro Receiver. You will no longer be limited in playing the NES Classic. Gamers will be able to enjoy it from the comfort of their couch or father than the short controller cable would allow. One of the Retro Receiver's upsides is its compatibility with all 8Bitdo controllers. That means the Bluetooth adaptor provides other options that include the Wii remote, Wii U Pro controller, the Dual Shock 3 and 4 and other wireless controllers. You can basically use a PS4 or PS3 controller to play the classic Super Mario Bros.

According to Engadget, it comes with the NES30 wireless controller. Instead of the usual two buttons, it has four buttons on its face. The NES30 is compatible with Mac, PC, iOS and Android. You can use it for up to 20 hours. On the other hand, the Retro Receiver will be powered through the NES Classic Edition controller port. If you are willing to spend $39.99, it's already up for preorder at Amazon. 8Bitdo estimates that the units will likely start shipping on Dec. 16, according to The Verge.

There is also a more affordable alternative, the Miniboss wireless controller. Like with 8Bitdo, the device is designed by Nyko to allow gamers to play from the console up to 30 feet away. A small adaptor is plugged into the NES Classic. It will cost you $19.99. Or you can also use Nyko's Extend Link for only $9.99. The Extend Link will let you use Nintendo's controllers. It just gives you a longer six-foot cord to work on. Nyko's products are available on the company's website as well as on Amazon and GameStop.

The wireless controllers actually defeat the purpose of the NES Classic Edition. It will stray away from the classic vibe of the console. However, a combination of the old and new is not actually bad. This is considering the fact that the short controller cable is a "party pooper". Gamers deserve to fully enjoy their favorite Nintendo classic games.
