The NFL and the rest of the world was shocked when the New England Patriots Tight End was arrested for murder back in 2013. Hernandez has been indicted with both single and double homicides, and the arrest of Oscar Hernandez Jr. (who is of no relation) reveals how Hernandez obtained the murder weapons. The latest Aaron Hernandez Trial Update has revealed when his next trail will be.
According to the Charlestown Patch, the Suffolk County, Massachusetts case against Aaron Hernandez is scheduled to return to court for a status hearing on May 21st, and the defendant will not be present. This is the second murder case for the former Patriots tight end, who is alleged to have a connection to a double murder in Boston as of last year of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.
Bleacher Report states that Aaron Hernandez will stand accused of gunning down De Abreu and Furtado in Boston at the Cure Lounge as the two sat in De Abreu's BMW on July 16, 2012. There was a third man in the car that was wounded, but not fatally. Hernandez is also being charged with "three counts of armed assault with intent to murder and one count of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon for shots fired at three surviving victims; and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm."
In a related story, CBS sports reports that a former associate of Aaron Hernandez, Oscar Hernandez Jr. (who is of no relation) was sentenced to two years in prison for transporting firearms across state lines, obstruction of justice, and lying to a federal grand jury. One of the guns involved in the Aaron Hernandez case was a .22 caliber gun that was found near the body of Odin Lloyd, but this was not the gun that was used in the murder.
According to the Hartford Courant, one of the convictions of Oscar Hernandez Jr. was that he shipped four weapons to Aaron Hernandez's Massachusetts address last year, after Aaron and three friends purchased the guns in Florida in April 2013.
An 18-page sentencing memo written by U.S. Attorney Glenn A. MacKinlay explains Aaron Hernandez's involvement: "Aaron Hernandez funded the conspiracy by providing Oscar with $15,000 for Oscar and others to buy the guns over the course of seven days after Oscar received the funds; for Oscar to buy the Toyota Camry to ship the guns inside; for Oscar to pay for the transportation of the car; and for Aaron Hernandez's girlfriend, Shayanna Jenkins, to pay for the receipt of the car in Massachusetts."
For those not familiar with the Aaron Hernandez murder cases, Odin Lloyd is the victim from Aaron Hernandez's first murder trial, as Hernandez was indicted by a grand jury for the murder of Lloyd, a semi-pro football player on August 22, 2013. Soon after, Hernandez was indicted for the double homicide of Abreu and Furtado on May 15, 2014. Last month, on April 15th, 2015, Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd, and is now serving a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole.
