It seems like there has been a lot of delays when it comes to the rollout of the Android 5.0 (otherwise known as Android L or Lollipop) to the latest Android devices. One of them is the constant delay of the release date for Android 5.0 on the Motorola Moto G, 1st and 2nd generation of devices, but there is a light of hope here.
According to Tech Radar, a lot of the first generation Moto G owners are receiving a message from Motorola saying that it is "preparing the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for your device...in the upcoming weeks". If you are a Moto G first generation user and are getting this message, the best thing you can do is click "more info", and this will allow Motorola to check the 1st Gen Moto G device to see if it has the latest version of the Motorola Update Service installed.
So far, we're seeing signs of the Lollipop update rolling out to Canadian 3G-only Moto G handsets for "a limited soak test". This is quite a good sign, as similar rollouts for Lollipop happened for the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung's flagship Android phone (at least until the S6 is unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2015). Right now, the Samsung S5 has Lollipop, and if you are successful with your update on a Moto G device, then you should have the latest version of Android, version 5.0.2.
The Android 5.0 L Release date for the Moto G 1st and 2nd Generation is quite a long history. We have actually already reported a few months ago that the second generation of the Moto G should have the Lollipop update. However, we wanted to follow up on that because this can vary depending on your subscriber, as we have recently written, months ago, about the Motorola Moto X having a Lollipop update that is only available to Verizon subscribers and the second generation of the smartphone.
Most of the news about the Moto G 2nd generation seems to be saying that it is readily available, and it doesn't look like there is any stipulation about the subscriber (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile). Even Motorola's customer help website confirms the new software update to Moto G (2nd Generation), saying "this update brings AndroidTM 5.0 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements".
Okay, as you might have suspected, a lot of this news on the Motorola Moto G, second generation, having Lollipop is months old. This means that it was predicted that it would have it by now, but I'm still getting mixed reports that some don't have it. In fact, the last time that we reported on it was before Christmas, saying that both the Moto G 1st ad 2nd Generation are jumping straight to the Android 5.0.1 update. Considering that you should be operating Android 5.0.2, I'm surprised that any Moto G doesn't have it by now. Leave us a comment if you are a Moto G owner who has some practical experience, and let us know what you've got.
