It seems that there have been delays in the rollouts of the most recent versions of Android. When Android 5.0 (also known as Android L or Lollipop) came out, it didn't come to the latest models of Android devices until months after the initial rollout. Some of the newer Samsung devices are still waiting in line for the latest version of Lollipop, which is version 5.1.1. Now that Android 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) has recently been revealed, users of Samsung devices like the Galaxy S6, S5, S4, Note Edge, Note 5, and Note 4 want to know when they will receive their Marshmallow update.
According to Android Geeks, there are still a lot of Galaxy smartphones and tablets that are still waiting on Android 5.1.1, but Samsung has revealed that the new 6.0 firmware will be available, but not when. From what we know about the Google Nexus series, there is a huge event planned on September 29th. It is believe that the next generation of Nexus devices will be unveiled, and these devices will be the first to run Android 6.0.
From there, it is all about the trickle-down, but Samsung is usually very good about getting the latest version of Android to their mobile devices. Of course the newest devices will be the first in line to get it, so the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners will be able to claim it soon. It actually has only been very recent that these two flagship and most recent smartphones received Android 5.1.1, as Samsung's network partners T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular updated the two devices, according to Neurogadget. The wait time for Marshmallow for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will probably a few months.
Judging by past rollouts of the newest versions of Android, like with Android 5.0 last year, it is possible that Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners might have to wait until early 2016 for their rollout. Last year, Android 5.0 rolled out in Fall 2014, but users of the Galaxy S5 didn't get access to the OTA rollout until early 2015.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S5, it should probably receive its Android M rollout in Q2 2016. This is also judging by past decisions from Samsung, as last year's Galaxy S4 did not receive its Android update to Lollipop until early summertime. It is possible that the S4 will be very late on any Marshmallow rollout, if it gets it at all.
As for the Note 5 and Note 4, the same rules apply for the Galaxy S smartphones. It is predicted that the new Note 5 will be receiving its update very soon after the official Marshmallow rollout that is due to occur at the end of September. Hopefully, it will arrive before the end of 2015. This would mean that the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge, which are slowly getting updated with Android 5.1.1, would be next in line.
