If you are a Motorola smartphone owner (of a relatively new handset, of course), surely you would be on the lookout as to whether your device would be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat at the very least, or perhaps even looking forward to Android 7.1 Nougat? Motorola has begun to push out the Android Nougat update to its Moto Z Play smartphone where it will bump the version to Android 7.0, arriving in the form of firmware version NPN25.137-15-2. Moto Z Play owners over in Europe have started to enjoy Android 7.0 Nougat goodness at the end of last month, and those living in the US will have to most likely wait until March this year. If you are living in Europe and have yet to pick it up, perhaps manually checking for the update in the Settings menu might do the trick, as Over The Air (OTA) updates tend to happen in stages so be patient.
What about owners of the Moto G4 and G4 Plus? It looks like Motorola has started to smile on select markets and introduce the Android 7.0 Nougat update to these places, although not everyone has picked it up just yet. After all, it is rolled out in stages via Over The Air (OTA), and developers would also like to gain access to the open source code in order to work the system updates. Right now, we are pleased to bring you word that the open source code is available to all and sundry via a kernel source download. Motorola's GitHub page carries the kernel source, with codes for both handsets in there being very similar to one another except for the camera and fingerprint sensor. With the release of the Nougat kernel source, it would most probably signal that a total Android 7.0 Nougat rollout for the Moto G4 and G4 Plus is nigh.
If there is one particular smartphone from Motorola that will miss out on the Android 7.0 Nougat update, it would be the Moto E3 Power. Right from the horse's mouth has it been revealed that the Moto E3 Power will not be on the receiving end of any Android 7.0 Nougat update. This would mean that all of you Moto E3 Power device owners will have to be happy and content with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the mobile operating system version that it came with. This is rather surprising, taking into consideration how the smartphone was just launched in September last year, and it is not as though its hardware specifications are so backward that it is unable to handle some Nougat goodness.
As for the Motorola Moto X Style, it seems that the smartphone over in India decided to give the Android 7.0 update a miss, and jumped right ahead of the queue with the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. What is even more surprising is this -- the Moto X Style picked up the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in India right after Christmas last year.
Of course, you can always check with Motorola’s official website on when your particular Android-powered Moto smartphone will pick up the latest Nougat version, if it is eligible.
