If there is one thing that Android customers are wanting, it is the Lollipop update. For those that are not familiar with Android, the latest firmware update is Lollipop, which is version 5.0. It is slowly rolling out to Android devices, as many advanced Android devices are currently running Android 4.4.4, otherwise known as KitKat. For those who have the Moto X 2nd Generation from Verizon, you should already be able to obtain the Lollipop update. Those who have the 2nd gen Moto X on other carriers, as well as the 1st generation might have to wait a while for this update.
The Official Motorola Blog announced that they were rolling out the Lollipop update to the Motorola Moto X (2nd Generation) Pure Edition, as well as US and Global retail GSM versions of the 2nd Generation of the Moto G.
On November 24, there was an update showing that Lollipop had begun rolling out on Moto X 2nd Generation users on Verizon in the United States. Gotta Be Mobile confirmed the November 24 date and that the Lollipop update is available.
In other words, if you don't have the Android 5.0 update on your Moto X 2nd Generation as a Verizon customer, then you should be able to get it right now.
For those who are AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile users of the new Moto X might have to wait a bit, but the news should be imminent. Speaking of waiting, those who have the first generation of the Moto X will probably need to wait longer. Gotta Be Mobile also reports that if new Moto X owners are getting updates, then owners of the original can expect it to quickly follow.
According to the Motorola Blog, the Lollipop update promises new features to the Motorola Moto X including a new look and feel with a "bold, new visual style" and "more natural touchscreen interactions". Users can also catch up on notifications on the lock screen and dismiss them without even unlocking. There is also a "guest" mode made for when your kid or friend wants to play with your Lollipop equipped smartphone. Another feature is the new flashlight, as well as a battery saver for an estimated projection of how much time you have left even while you're charging.
The first generation of the Moto X was the first smartphone to get KitKat (Android 4.4), and the second generation of Moto X will be the first to have Lollipop (Android 5.0). That seems like poetic justice for this series of phones, and I can't help but wonder if the third generation of the Moto X will have the next generation of Android M.
