Android L, also known as Android 5.0 or Lollipop, has been very slow to roll out for newer versions of Android phones. This is especially true for Motorola phones including the Moto G (both 1st and 2nd generation), the Moto X (also 1st and 2nd generation), the Moto E, as well as other Motorola Android phones.
According to Know Your Mobile, it would appear that Android 5.0.2 is appearing on second generation (2014 Version) Moto G handsets in the UK. A European launch is usually a good sign that it will be heading over here to the United States, but there doesn't seem to be any release date.
As for the 2013 version of the Moto G, Android Pit has already stated that version 5.0 is already out, along with 5.0.2, and it began in India and worked its way out. Tech Droider is already showing photos of Android 5.1 on the Moto G second generation.
As for the Moto X, the first and second generation, it looks like a new update for Android 5.1 for the 2nd Gen Moto X is still not officially announced the update schedule, according to the Latino Post. This goes for the 1st generation of the Moto X, but there has been reports that the new update has been made available for Brazilian users, which means that the United States isn't too far. The reason for the delay for Android 5.0 has to do with the chipset from the phone, the Snapdragon S4 Pro.
We have previously reported that last month Motorola spokesman David Shuster confirmed the Lollipop update for the first generation of Moto X was cancelled, but it would be getting Android 5.1.
As for the Moto E, I have word from the International Business Times that Motorola pushed out the Android 5.0.2 update via OTA to the Moto E in India, but this news is about two months old. Most other reports that I have seen are also that old, so there really isn't any news about the Moto E.
Now would be a good time to talk about other Motorola DROID models. One thing that I have been hearing about from sources like GSM Arena is that the Motorola DROID Turbo will be getting an update to Android 5.1, completely bypassing version 5.0. This was just recently confirmed by a recent article from the Master Herald.
According to PC Advisor, Android 5.1 is expected to be "a large update, returning the silent mode missing from Android 5.0, improving system stability, RAM management battery management, and fixing sudden app closures, Wi-Fi problems and sound problems".
The 5.1 update will also include native support for more than on SIM-card, which works very well for phones with dual-SIM card slots. The user can also join Wi-Fi networks and control paired Bluetooth devices directly from the Quick Settings section of the notification bar.
We should be expecting the Android 5.1 L update for the Motorola Moto G, Moto X, Moto E, and other DROID models quite soon, so keep searching your Settings for any updates if you are a user of these Motorola handsets.
