When it comes to the update of Android 5.0 (also known as Android L or Lollipop), it has been very slow to rollout on even the newer models of Android handsets and tablets.  None have been more slow to roll out to users than the Android Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia and Samsung Galaxy Series.  This is what we know about the Lollipop update for both phone series with carriers like Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

Some of the stragglers when it comes to the Android Lollipop update are the ones of the Sony Xperia, and as the Latin Post reports, the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z1 are finally going to get their long-awaited update from T-Mobile.  At least we know from T-Mobile that it will be out by May 2015, which only gives it less than a week before it will arrive.

The strangest indicator of the delay of the Lollipop Update to the Sony Xperia collection is a recent article from Digital Trends.  They show that only Europe has the Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact.  Sony promised that that update would arrive by March 16th, and then it promised that update to all the premium models of the Z series.

As for the Samsung Galaxy series of phones, most of the models should already have Android 5.0 Lollipop, if not Android 5.1 or higher.  According to Know Your Mobile, there are many reports in the United States of Galaxy S6 Edge handsets receiving version 5.1.1.  As for some models, the Galaxy S5 Mini should be receiving Android Lollipop 5.0.1 by the end of May, with the Galaxy Alpha handsets A5 and A7 updated to version 5.0.2 as early as June.

When it comes to carriers and Galaxy devices S5 and older, Digital Trends has a lot of report on that.  Of the Galaxy S5, only Sprint does not seem to have the Android Lollipop, but it does have Lollipop for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.  It would appear that AT&T seems to rule the Lollipop for the Galaxy Series as only the Galaxy Note 3 is the only one that doesn't appear to have its Lollipop update as yet.  T-Mobile only has it for the S5, which is almost the same situation as Verizon, who has Lollipop for the S5 and the Galaxy Note 3.  For those in Europe, Lollipop is available for the S5, S4, Note 4, and Note Edge, but not the Note 3, S5 Active, or versions of the Alpha.

It should be noted that the Galaxy S3 and older versions are not even making the list, making it questionable if Android Lollipop will ever even come to the S3 as an OTA (over the air) update.  It is possible to use a Cyanogen Mod, according to the International Business Times

The Sony Xperia Z3 will probably receive Lollipop in the United States soon, with it trickling down on the rest of the Z Series promptly after that.  Those of the Samsung Galaxy S6 or S5 persuasion should have it, save for Sprint on the S5 front.  Again, that Lollipop update will trickle down, slowly but surely.
