It seems odd that even though the newest version of Android, Marshmallow, also known as Version 6.0 or Android M, has been out for four months, but Samsung, one of the biggest champions of Android, still does not have it. Granted, upgrades of Android are usually slow to roll out in general, and most Android smartphone and tablet manufacturers don't publish a list of what device will get it and when. This is what is currently known about the Android M Version 6.0 and 6.0.1 Marshmallow Release Date For Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge+, Note 5, Note 4, Note Edge, and S5 on US Cellular, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint.
According to Android Authority, some phones have been receiving the Marshmallow upgrade by accident. For example, a Galaxy Note 4 users in Hungary received the Marshmallow update on accident on December 4 of last year, and a Galaxy S5 owner received it a few days later on December 28.
A recent report from the Latin Post has stated that some carrier versions of 2015 flagships are getting the Marshmallow upgrade. There is a leak of it showing up on a Galaxy Note 5 on AT&T, for example. Considering that that the Note 5 is one of the most recently released phones along with the Galaxy S6 Edge +, then it looks like an Android upgrade for the latest in Samsung's devices is imminent. The leak is even a version number 6.0.1, and it has been reported on Pocket Lint that Samsung released the 6.0.1 Marshmallow updated for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones in South Korea on January 30, 2016.
It is reported that the Note 5 will probably be receiving its proper Android release date by the end of this month. This is an issue is with official rollouts of Android, as certain carriers can receive them before others.
Beyond the brief rumors that cannot be relied upon, there really hasn't been much change in the past week. There was a report from SamsungViet that updates for devices like the Galaxy Note 4, Note 4 Duos, Note Edge, Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge +, S6 Duos, S5, S5 Neo and S5 LTE-A should be receiving the Android upgrade in Q1 2016, and this sounds like an accurate prediction as any. Then there are also reports saying that the Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Tab A, Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 and Tab S2 8.0 should be receiving their Android M update in Q2.
It is possible that these leaks are correct, and that the Galaxy S6 Edge + and the Note 5 will be getting its update in February, followed by the S6 and S6 Edge sometime in between February and March. Considering that the newer versions of Android devices often receive the upgrade first, this makes a lot of sense. If this is true, then the older models of Samsung devices like the Galaxy S5, Note 4, and Note Edge getting its update in between March and April.
