One month ago, Google had their big presentation where they finally unveiled the rollout of Android 6.0 after officially announcing it at their I/O Developers conference a few months prior. The tradition of waiting for the latest version of Android to roll out on newer versions of their smartphones and tablets has begun anew, and many LG users are wondering when it will be coming to their devices like the G4, G3, G2, and G Flex 2. A recent development in Poland with the planned rollout could delay the release date.
According to Geek Snack, the release of Marshmallow for the LG G4 that should have happened in Poland last week has been suspended indefinitely. LG even announced that the "update is temporarily suspended", but they haven't given proper explanation as to what specific issues as to what is delaying the European rollout.
This is one of those times where it is not possible to estimate how long this delay will last. If it were some bugs that can be easily fixed, then it would seem that the company would have just come out and said that there was a small delay and an estimate when they would be on track. In this case, no news is bad news from the company, so it seems consumers can only interpret the delay as indefinitely.
The indefinite delay from LG is kind of a blow to both the company and LG users, who were hoping that the Poland rollout would eventually lead to a quicker rollout to the rest of Europe, as well as America. Of course, the current flagship phone, the LG G4 will probably the first to get Marshmallow, and perhaps the LG Flex 2, according to Tech Radar.
As stated before, the standard rule of Android is that it rolls out very slowly. The newer Android phones get it first, but this rate varies depending on the phone and carrier. The same thing happened with the rollout of Android 5.0 (also known as Android L or Lollipop last year), but the then flagship phone LG G3 got its Lollipop eventually. The future is not certain for the LG G2.
The delay on the Poland rollout for LG is a bad start, as the company went out of its way to brag that their phones would be one of the first to receive Marshmallow. Of course, Google Nexus is the first, and HTC has released their newest HTC One A9 that will have 6.0 out of the box.
It was hoped that LG would receive their Android Marshmallow update to at least the G4 by the end of this year, but this delay could put it off until early 2016. By that time, people will be starting to talk about the LG G5, or whatever the company decides to call their flagship phone for next year.
In the meantime, there are still LG devices older than the G4 waiting on receiving version 5.1.1. It is possible that these models will skip that and go straight to Marshmallow, or 5.1.1 will be as high as it goes.
