Back when Android 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) began to roll out, LG made some promises about their mobiles being the first to get it. It looks like this is starting to come to pass as certain LG G3 and LG G4 devices are starting to receive it, but only for certain carriers. Here is the current news about Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date for LG G4, G3 V10, G Flex 2 on Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, US Cellular, and T-Mobile, as well as the LG G5 Release Date and Specs.
For those that have Verizon for their LG G3 or LG G4, there is good news. Android Police reports that these two flagship devices, one old and one new (respectively), are getting updated to Android 6.0 thanks to an OTA (Over The Air) update. It is suggested that if you do not see the OTA update on your phone, be patient and check for it manually.
Considering that this update has come to the LG G3 and LG G4 on Verizon, there is no reason to believe that it won't be rolling out on other subscribers such Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and US Cellular. There is a report from Pocket Lint saying that T-Mobile started pushing Marshmallow to the G4 on February 4th, so T-Mobile users should also check to see fi the update is available if that is the case. Tech Radar reports that the update is also rolling out to Sprint users, so you should check your LG device if you are a Sprint subscriber.
Considering the slow speed that Android 6.0 is rolling out, it is interesting to see that the LG flagship phones are getting it, so it should spill over to devices like the V10 and G Flex 2. The company did trumpet the fact that they would be the first to receive it, and they began rolling it out as early as last fall of 2015 to countries like Poland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Croatia, and Turkey.
It looks like it is rolling out here in the United States, albeit slowly. This is just in time too, as LG is planning on replacing its flagship phone with a new one that will presumably be called the LG G5. According to the International Business Times, LG has already sent off invitations to the official event of unveiling, set to take place on February 21st, a day before Mobile World Congress, an annual event in Barcelona, Spain, officially begins.
The G5 should have a 5.5 or 5.6 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1,440 x 2,560. The battery should be about 3,000 mAh. As for what is inside, it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, and have an Adreno 530 GPU. As for the memory, expect 32 GB internal memory which will be expandable to 128 GB via microSD card. The camera is expected to be 16 Megapixels for the primary, and then 8 Megapixels for the secondary.
