Considering that Sony's competitors such as LG, HTC, Motorola, and Samsung have begun to release the newest version of Android Marshmallow, it is likely that the Japanese company should get itself in line. Especially since the upgrade to version 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) happened four months ago, and Sony has been the last to get it. This is what is known about the Android M Update for Sony Xperia Z5, Z4, Z3 and Z2 on Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, AT&T, and Verizon as well as news for the Sony Xperia X, XA, and X Performance Release Date.
The IB Times reveals that Sony has released the Android 6.0 update to only its Xperia Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact devices. The issue is that it was supposed to go to not only those two devices, but to the Xperia Z4 Tablet, Z3+, and the remaining member of the Z5 series, the Z5.
Other phones from Sony that are due to receive the upgrade include: Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4.
As for the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z2 devices, a new Marshmallow beta should get a pre-release version of Android 6.0.1, according to Tech Times. This beta program was announced last month, and it was only users of those previously mentioned devices in Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands that were eligible for this program.
While we are talking about Sony, this would be a good time to bring up what looks to be some new step in Sony's plan with the announcement of the Xperia X Performance smartphone. This phone will come with Android Marshmallow right out of the box, and will have a 5.0 touchscreen display (with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution). It will also have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 3 GB of RAM, with 32 of internal storage the can be expanded up to 2000 GB via microSD card. The cameras include a 23 Megapixel primary and a 13 Megapixel secondary. The Performance is big on waterproofing, which is what its competitor, the Samsung S7 has been boasting about a lot recently.
In addition to the X Performance, Sony also announced the Xperia X and XA. The X is a scaled down version of the Performance, while the XA is a more limited model with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of built-in storage and microSD support, 13 Megapixel Exmor RX shooter, and 8 Megapixel camera.
All three of these phones should be out sometime in the summer, and as for the release date of Android M on these other Sony Xperia Z phones mentioned earlier, it is due to arrive probably sometime before that. Users should check their Settings options to see if it isn't already available, and also be mindful that some carriers receive the newest version of Android before others, so it is possible that it could come later on Sprint, US Cellular, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
