Since it has been three months since Google released the updated version 6.0 of the Android operating system (also known as Android M or Marshmallow), about the only ones to receive it are Google's own Nexus series as well as some others. When it comes to Sony, many users are wondering when it will arrive.  This is the current news about Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date Sony Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium, Z4, and Z3 series for carriers like Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular.

When it comes to getting out Android 6.0, Sony is one company where the rollout is pretty slow.  Not only that, there really isn't word from Sony as far as what devices will be receiving their update and when, but Sony did publish a list of what devices will be getting it.

According to Pocket-Lint, the list of Sony devices to receive the update include:

  • Xperia Z5
  • Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Xperia Z3+
  • Xperia Z3
  • Xperia Z3 Compact
  • Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
  • Xperia Z2
  • Xperia Z2 Tablet
  • Xperia M5
  • Xperia C5 Ultra
  • Xperia M4 Aqua
  • Xperia C4

According to Tech Radar, there is a Twitter tipster known as @Ricciolo who has stated that the Z5 family (including the Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium) will be receiving its Marshmallow update sometime in the month of January.  It would make sense, as the Z5 are the most recent flagship models of Android devices for Sony.

Mobipicker suggests that could come to pass, and also suggests that the Marshmallow upgrade could also come soon for the Z4, Z3, Z2, M5, M4, and C5 as well.  It also reports that Marshmallow concept beta has already rolled out for the Z3 and Z3 Compact, which is a positive sign that the rollout could be coming for January, or after that.

This test program for the Z3 and Z3 Compact is for more than 10,000 users in countries like Lithuania, Germany, Denmark, Norway, UK, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, and Sweden, and could improve the quality of the updates.  It is possible that the Z3 series could be receiving the Android M upgrade after this beta program ends.

Another hopeful sign is that the Wi-Fi Alliance has certified the Xperia Z5 and Z4 Marshmallow update, but this means that it could still be delayed until at least February.  Another delay could be the carrier, which would be AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, or US Cellular in the United States, as Android is notorious for coming to some carriers earlier than others.
