All good things must come to an end, but this does not necessarily apply to only good things, as there are many other bad things, or simply ways and stuff that do not work, which will also need to cease and desist. After all, it does not make too much sense to continue with what looks to be a failure or something that is headed in that direction. Apple of all companies, have gone through its fair share of ups and downs, and knows a thing or two about cutting its losses and bouncing back from failure. The latest word on the street? Apple might just call it a day for its Thunderbolt Display, although as to the exact moment when that happens has yet to be determined.
Apple’s Thunderbolt Display is not all that new, having been made available for purchase via online channels as well as over in brick-and-mortar Apple retail stores ever since it was first introduced to the market during summer half a decade ago - back in 2011, to be exact.
An Apple spokesperson shared, "We're discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display. It will be available through Apple.com, Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users." This is one rather straightforward statement that does set the tone for such a train of thought, and we do wonder whether the official announcement from Apple is set to happen sooner rather than later.
Of course, in other words, Apple will not stop selling their current stock of Thunderbolt Displays, as long as there are units left on the shelves as well as the store room. Needless to say, the moment whatever stock that remains ends up stock exhausted, then one can no longer pick it up since the production of Thunderbolt Displays are set to cease and desist. It remains to be seen as to the reason behind Apple's decision for such an announcement, although one cannot help but wonder whether this is the next step forward in the right direction for the Cupertino-based company who would like to settle for a spanking new 4K or 5K display sometime down the road.
There were stock shortages of the Thunderbolt Display ahead of WWDC, which fueled rumors that Apple might just have plans to roll out a spanking new display at the event, although those looking forward to that to happen ended up disappointed, as Apple focused on software for iOS devices, new Macs, the Apple TV, and even the Apple Watch family of wearable technology.
As for the next generation of displays which Apple is said to be working on, they include a 5K display that might jolly well arrive with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels, support for USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 peripherals in order to keep up with the times, as well as a design that is not too far away from the current generation of Macs for more uniformity in the Apple product family, and we will not rule out the possibility of an integrated GPU or the use of a DisplayPort 1.2 Multi-Stream Transport setup in order to bring two halves of a display together, letting your eyes enjoy what looks like one seamless display.
