With Apple carrying out a major media event on September 7, a wide range of devices and software, including the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as well as the latest Apple Watch and the iOS 10, can be expected.
Apple will broadcast the September 2016 event with live feed and stream on its website here. The highly-anticipated event will be carried out at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California, merely 50 minutes away from the company’s Cupertino headquarters.
According to the event schedule, the presentation will be headed by chief executive Tim Cook and will begin at 10am PST, to last from 90 to 120 minutes.
Based on recent reports, leaked images and speculations, the following devices will be revealed during such major event.
iPhone 7
Despite being the latest model, the iPhone 7 will not come with a major physical redesign and is expected to resemble the current iPhone 6 and 6S designs. Nonetheless, there will be noticeable tweaks such as the antenna cutouts that will give the device a cleaner look, especially its rear.
The iPhone 7 will come in a 4.7-inch version and a 5.5-inch variant. The smartphone will also likely come with features that are at the same level with those of the “S” models, including faster processors, improved cameras and other similar improvements. Earlier this year, it was also speculated that Apple will no longer be making the 16GB base model of the iPhone. Instead, it may run starting at either 32GB or 64 GB until either 128GB or 256GB, like the iPad Pro.
The absence of the headphone jack will likely give the iPhone 7 a thinner build compared with the 6 and 6S. The smartphone will also be available in a new black color option to replace the current Space Gray. In a previous leaked image, the color seemed to be a darker and glossier version of the Space Gray, and is being termed as “piano black.”
The iPhone 7 Home Button will reportedly be touch sensitive so Haptic feedback will make a buzz to one’s finger to inform them that the button has been pressed.
Details on water resistance, wireless charging and a blue color option are yet to be confirmed.
iPhone 7 Plus
For the iPhone 7 Plus, the device will still come with a 5.5-inch screen, similar to the iPhone 6S Plus but will feature a brand-new rear camera that has two lenses.
According to the event invitation, the shooter will create images that are of greater depth, boasting a “bokeh” effect through which objects in the foreground or background can be move around and out of focus. Interestingly, the dual lens is expected to be capable of achieving a proper optical zoom, giving the phone an edge among other devices.
Aside from a possible 256GB storage option, the iPhone 7 Plus may also include a three-pinned Smart Connector same as that of the iPad Pro, allowing other accessories, like a keyboard dock, to be attached to the smartphone.
AirPods/Beats Headphones
Fans can look forward to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus being released with a pair of wired EarPod headphones inside the package, which can easily be connected to the Lightning port. However, Apple is rumored to have more headphones in store, such as the AirPods, which are a wireless, rechargeable version of the currently available EarPods.
Aside from the AirPods, Apple could be unveiling the latest line of new Beats headphones. As pointed out in an email that was unintentionally sent out from the Beats PR team earlier this month: "A selection of new Beats by Dre products will be unveiled." Thus, the new range might come with a number of wireless and Lightning headphones, each at different prices.
Apple Watch 2 or Apple Watch S
With a new Apple Watch being made, the latest speculations suggest that the upcoming device will be an update to its predecessor and will come with similar features as that of the current model. Aside from a newer and faster processor, it will also come with GPS and a “noticeably thinner” display made of glass. Despite rumors of the new Apple Watch being revealed at this month’s event, it is expected to hit stores sometime in December before Christmas.
iOS 10
Apple users look forward to the final version of iOS 10 being revealed. It is the latest software update for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. New features include changes in the Control and Notification centers along with a new Home app, new Maps design, artificial intelligence through QuickType, activation of non-Apple apps and functions through voice control, and much more. The iOS 7 will be rolled out this September before the iPhone 7 gets released.
watchOS 3
The Apple Watch finally gets its greatest software update, allowing the device to perform faster and introducing a new Dock to facilitate the switching between apps.
macOS Sierra
Finally, the updated version of the macOS Sierra will be another software that will soon be finished in time for Apple’s event. Together with visual and performance upgrades, Siri will be joining the Mac family for the first time. Other features include the Universal Clipboard and iCloud Desktop as well as automated collections in Memories, among others.
