Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has spoken out for the first time since her wedding was called off this month, revealing that while it is a "painful" time for her and her family, she is confident that God's plan is "greater than anything else."

In March, the 24-year-old television personality announced on her blog that she was engaged to Dakota Meyer, 26, a Medal of Honor recipient who saved 36 Marine comrades from an ambush in Afghanistan and subsequently received the Medal of Honor from President Obama in 2011.

However, last week, Sarah Palin posted a message on her Facebook page revealing that the wedding would not take place on that date, but did not offer any further information. On Tuesday, Bristol took to her blog for the first time to "address the elephant-in-the-room" and thank everyone for their "love and support."

"This is a painful time for family and friends and I would just really appreciate your prayers," she wrote in post titled "The Wedding That Didn't Happen."

Palin, who has a son, Tripp, 6, from a previous relationship, did not reveal whether she will marry Meyer in the future, but noted that she is "moving forward" with her family in Alaska.

"I know God's plan is greater than anything else, and Tripp and I are in Alaska beginning to rebuild our lives under much different circumstances than we anticipated," she said.

Palin previously appeared in the ABC television competition "Dancing with the Stars" in 2010 and 2012. She reportedly met Meyer in 2014 when he came to Alaska to film the reality television show "Amazing Race" along with her mother, who ran alongside Republican presidential nominee John McCain in 2008.

The Daily Mail reports that Meyer asked for Palin's hand in marriage while the two were in Las Vegas at a Rascal Flatts concert.

Although the pair's wedding was called off, the couple's families fathered on the planned wedding date with invited guests at the former groom's Kentucky farm (also the canceled wedding location) "to celebrate life, in general!" for a barbecue over the long weekend. However, Palin skipped the gathering, and instead spent a quiet weekend with her son and close friends, according to her Instagram page.

After announcing the couple's wedding would not longer take place, Sarah Palin posted an image of a poignant quote to her Facebook page which read, "Trust in God's timing. It's better to wait awhile and have things fall into place than to rush and have things fall apart."
