Candace Cameron Bure Testifies Her Christian Faith, Upholds Modesty on 'Dancing With the Stars'

By Luke Leung

"Full House" star Candace Cameron Bure boldly shared during ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" dance competition that her Christian faith has and will continue to dictate her decisions in dancing and clothing choices last week.

"I'm not gonna be your sexy girl. I'm a mom of three kids, so I want to look good and feel beautiful, but I will probably stay on the more modest end of customing," she told her dance partner Mark Ballas in a video clip shown before their Monday night performance.

Moreover, she is hoping to be a good role model for her children and husband and for all the moms in a culture that promotes immodesty and sex appeals.

"I want to represent all the moms out there and inspire them and encourage them," she told Us magazine. "I'm just a woman. I'm not any different than all the moms out there - my priority is my family, my husband, my kids and so this for me is truly just a joy."

Then, this Monday, when Bure and her partner were assigned to dance the rumba, Bure remained steadfast in her initial commitment.

"I'm a Christian, my life revolves around my relationship with Jesus Christ," Bure said on the show Monday. "So with the overall tone of the dance or the costumes, I'm not going to take a backseat. My voice will definitely be heard."

While her decisions may have affected her appeal to the fans and judges, Bure did not let the outward opinions affect her identity in Christ and her view of her sexuality.

"I feel like a sexual woman. I've been married for 18 years. I am a sexual woman," Bure explained on the show. "But I want to reserve certain things for my husband. So we did, I think, the best that we could with the rumba that I still felt comfortable doing."

This week, the judges gave her a score of only 21 out of 30 points, which was lesser than last week's, Bure is known to stand her ground on biblical values.

Bure released her latest book Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose, in which she acknowledges that her husband, former hockey player Valeri Bure, is the decision-maker of the house and honors the biblical definition of "submission." Her statement received backlashes from non-Christians and feminists, but she clarified, "It's meekness. The Bible says to obey meekly. Meekness is not weakness. It's strength under control. My husband does not dominate me. He leads my family."

Like the previous time, Bure has received widespread support from those who respected her views through social media and blog posts. The Christian actress, better known as DJ from "Full House," along with her brother Kirk Cameron, has not been ashamed to share their faith before the American television fans. Perhaps, it was because of her boldness that so many moms, wives, and Christians showed their support.

Bure was 11 years old when she starred on the ABC sitcom "Full House." Unlike many of her peers, the young actress held onto her morals and faith as she started picking up more adult roles.

From a young age, Bure had the support of her family including brother and fellow actor Kirk Cameron of "Growing Pains." She credits her family with holding her accountable in faith, according to Fox411.

"Becasuse how close my family is to me, and the big influence that my mom and dad had on me as a child and then into adulthood, I just never desired to be seen differently," she said. "Even if that was at the risk of my career."

Bure revealed that there were a lot of pressure within the entertainment world to leave her image as a youth star by taking on provocative roles, but she has managed to stay on track.

"[There was] pressure from the industry because there's a lot of guidance told by agents and managers and in casting that we need to see you differently," she said, according to Fox411. "I just heard that advice but chose not to take it."

Bure shared on "Dancing With The Stars" that she chose to compete because she wanted to show her children the example of trying something new while maintaining her standards.

"I have children of my own now. I have a family to protect and children to look out for, so I have very strong boundaries and I work within those," said Bure, according to Fox411. "It's very easy to say I wont do anything with nudity but there are certain parts that I would love to dive into as an actress that are very different than me, and I can do those with out breaking my personal boundaries."

In recent months, another TV personality 16-year-old Christian Sadie Robertson from A&E's hit show "Duck Dynasty" has been producing weekly video devotionals on Monday nights and designing a clothing line in an effort to encourage modesty in a culture where fashion trends are often contrary to the ways of the Lord. The news was immensly popular among women with teenage daughters and granddaughters.

The similarities between Bure and Robertson are not only their faith but the support that they receive from their families to hold them accountable to the faith that they've trusted in ever since their childhood.

Bure is partnering with two-time DWTS champ Mark Ballas, and the ballroom pro has the approval of her husband and three children.

"I couldn't do it without their support because it really is a huge schedule, and as much as it is really physically challenging, it's also mentally challenging," Cameron Bure told PEOPLE at the Muppets Most Wanted Hollywood premiere held earlier this month. "My family is really excited that I'm doing the show, my husband is rooting me on, my kids just want to be a part of it in every way that they can be, so it's just great."

Still, Bure is competiting against Olympians Meryl Davis and Charlie White, which meant she would need the prayers of her supporters to win the hearts of the judges and fans to get the votes necessary to win.

Bure has shared more of her testimony on her website, and be sure to watch her compete on DWTS and vote on ABC.com and Dancing With the Stars Facebook page
