2016 Chevrolet SS Release Date, Specs, Review and Price

The 2016 Chevy SS.
Coming by the end of the year.

The SS is a rear-wheel drive performance sedan from Chevrolet.  The 2016 version is built in Elizabeth, Austrailia, by General Motors' Holden division, and this is what we know about the Chevrolet SS 2016 Release Date, Specs, and Review, as well as the price.

According to New Cars 2015-2016, the 2016 Chevy SS is essentially a "re-badged Holden".  Much of what will be on the previous model will be on the 2016 edition, except for a new exhaust system with a quad-pipe layout and a honeycomb grill on the front fascia.

The engine of the Chevy SS 2016 is the same as the one from the Corvette, meaning that it will use a 6.2 liter V8 which can put out 420 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.  It will be a 6-speed automatic or the brand new 6-speed manual.  The top speed will be 160 mph, and the 0 to 60 time of 5 seconds.  Much of the specs of the Chevrolet SS 2016 are very similar to that of the 2015 version.

As for the interior, this will compare with other full-size sport sedans as it comes with automatic air conditioning, satellite navigation, and Pandora radio.  There is also a fully leather interior with steering wheel controls and aluminum inserts.  The instrument cluster has four analog gauges and a 4.2-inch screen that provides navigation directions, as well as other things going on under the hood.  Also on board is the Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system that is controlled by an eight-inch dash-mounted color touchscreen, and for hands-free calls, destination entering, song selection, all with voice recognition.

As far as occupant safety is concerned, the 2016 SS Chevrolet will hopefully match is predecessor as it is fully loaded with ten airbags, including those for the knees, side-impact, and head curtains.  Other standard features include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Alert, and Rear-vision camera with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.  By the way, the 2015 SS was the first Chevrolet to come with Automatic Parking Assist, which has the ability to steer the car into either a parallel or reverse right-angle parking spot without input from the driver.  I can't imagine that the 2016 will not have that feature.

According to Left Lane News, the Chevy SS 2015 featured a newly-standard Magnetic Ride Control that uses fluid-filled shocks that "change their viscosity based on magnetic charge".  This allows the car to "read" the road surface every millisecond, providing a "more responsive ride in all driving conditions".  This is another feature that really should carry over to the 2016 edition.

The all-new Chevrolet SS 2016 is due out in "late 2015", and there doesn't seem to be a more specific release date than that for most 2016 models.  New Cars 2014-2015 puts the price tag at $44,000, which is still low compared to an AMG Mercedes.
