The reviews are out and critics are raving about Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman." Starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, the superhero movie is now considered as the best ever made so far in the class, besting even the earlier efforts of DC and Marvel. Movie reviewers say Wonder Woman is must-watch and reasons are aplenty.

75 years in the making

Prior to Jenkins, numerous directors, among them Joss Whedon of "The Avengers," tried to bring Wonder Woman from the comic books to the big screen but not one film did materialize. According to Time Magazine, completing a movie on the Amazonian princess named Diana took 75 years to complete and the pressure to succeed after more than seven decades is immense.

But as the Time report said: "Wonder Woman's battle to the big screen was never going to be easy, but Jenkins and Gadot are giving her a fighting chance." And if the positive reviews that continue to pour in are of any indication, it sure looks like the movie is heading for a surefire win.

Classic touch but far from generic

In a review roundup from Business Insider, critics pointed out that one of Wonder Woman's immediate appeal is the movie easily reminds of classic adventure films like "Superman" and "Indiana Jones," that both centered on the heroics of one dominant character.

At the same time, Jenkins' film is certainly fantasy but the feel of authenticity was not lost with the director's thoughtful treatment.

Perfect WWI setting

The action scenes were nothing short of spectacular as critics praised the choice of World War I as the theater of Wonder Woman's superhero capabilities. "The film's action is explosive and engaging, and a sequence where Diana ventures into no man's land in the middle of a trench battle is stunning to behold," the report quoted the review by USA Today as saying.

As Gadot's character was being developed, it seemed appropriate to use the WWI setting to showcase man's ability for self-destruction, the report said.

Perfect choice of actors

Gadot, no doubt, is the perfect Wonder Woman and so are the other cast members. BuzzFeed picked out Chris Pine as among the key stand outs. The actor was oozing with charm and caused natural sparks in every scene with Gadot, the review said.

And it helped that the Israeli-born actress essayed both Diana and Wonder Woman with just the right amount of authenticity, the review added.

Fun and watchable

Wonder Woman may have retained a nugget of the dark theme that is signature of the DC Extended Universe but the Jenkins' film managed to stay interesting and even engaging. The film is both fun, watchable and far from being a cliché, Forbes said according to the report.

"An electrifying, breathtaking cinematic achievement ... Amazing performances, pulse-pounding action, and outstanding visuals make it one of the best superhero movies of all time," the publication added on its review.

What was served with Wonder Woman far exceeds the expectations and paying up for right to see the film should be an easy decision. But not in the case of would-be watchers in Lebanon as the country is likely to ban Wonder Woman because Gal Gadot is a citizen of Israel. The two countries remain at war, The Telegraph reported.
