Both Marvel and Netflix have teamed up to create four series, with fans of the comics and shows wondering what is in store for Daredevil Season 2, Jessica Jones Season 2, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. All four shows are in the same universe and will team up for another show known as The Defenders, and these shows could also be affected when Captain America: Civil War hits its release date.
According to CinemaBlend, Season 2 of Daredevil could be arriving sooner than expected, possibly March 2016. Season 1 arrived to Netflix last year on April to critical acclaim, and it didn't take long before Season 2 was green-lit. Season 2 has been filming for quite a while, and it is about to be finished so it will air, hopefully as soon as possible for fans.
Matt Murdock (Daredevil's real name, played by actor Charlie Cox) ended Season 1 with the traditional red costume, and then defeating criminal mastermind Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio). Fisk will not be on Season 2, but fan-favorite The Punisher will. The Punisher, or Frank Castle (played by Jon Bernthal), is pretty well-known by non-comic book fans as he has had three movies devoted to him. The Punisher is Marvel's antihero vigilante, who shoots to kill when it comes to meeting criminals.
In addition to facing the Punisher, Daredevil is also going to meet up with Elektra (played by Elodie Yung), another fan-favorite from the comic book source material. Elektra is a vigilante herself, but she and Daredevil have been lovers. She has died in the comic, being killed by a vigilante named Bulls-eye, who doesn't appear to be slated to show up in Season 2.
As for Jessica Jones Season 2, it might be a while before we hear back from Krysten Ritter's titular character. The show received equal critical praise as the first season of Daredevil, and ComicBook.com has stated that Jessica Jones "did the most to lay down the groundwork on which the Defenders crossover series will be built".
Daredevil and Jessica Jones take place in the same universe as The Avengers, but it would appear that superheroes do not have the respect of everyone. Considering that Captain America: Civil War is going to feature heroes fighting heroes, something that isn't really developed is how the general public feels about having super-powered being in their life.
Meanwhile, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) was revealed on Jessica Jones, and a recent synopsis of the plot for the show revealed: "After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city - forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury." Luke Cage should be out soon, and it will probably be after Captain America: Civil War is in theaters, and events in that movie could affect that show. Not to mention anything that could develop after this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
As for Iron Fist, that is still in production, with very little information known about it. So how that fits in, who knows?
The big question everyone is wondering about these Defenders series is what they are leading up to. As in, what villain will The Defenders be fighting? What if the true villain is the general public, who is not keen on the idea that superheroes are fighting criminals without a license? It is something to think about, Netflix and Marvel.
