With Marvel and Netflix having a major hit with the first season of Daredevil, it has many fans wondering where Season 2 will go.  In a word, it will be the Punisher, as he will appear in Season 2.  The popular Marvel antihero could take the show into a very violent direction, so much that it might be too much.  This is what is known on Daredevil Season 2 Release Date and Cast.

The show's former executive producer and showrunner Steven DeKnight has been quoted on Screen Crush as saying that "The thing about The Punisher, and I think there are great things about each of those versions, but none of them was completely the Marvel version. And none of those movies were under the Marvel Studios banner until they recently got The Punisher back. So this is really the first time that we're seeing the Marvel Studios from the Iron Man days, when they can control their own product, actually do this character."

There has been much reporting on Steven DeKnight's saying that the Daredevil show is PG-16.  This refers to the amount of violence that is shown on the Netflix show, as it is pretty violent, but not to the point where it is R-rated.  DeKnight has stated that "I have no idea if they're planning to push it that far next season but I would be surprised", according to Ecumenical News.

Considering that they are going to add the Punisher, this could easily tip it into R-rated territory.  The Punisher has even had three movies made about him, and he is most famous for his shirt with the skull emblazed on his chest.  The first time the Punisher appeared on screen was in a 1989 film staring Dolph Lundgren, and he did not even wear the trademark skull shirt.  The second time was in a 2004 film with Thomas Jane as the main character, wearing the skull shirt with pride.  The final time was in 2008 with Punisher: War Zone, with Ray Stevenson.

It is not known if Netflix will use that skull look, but in the comics, the Punisher, aka Frank Castle, was a war veteran with a family that was killed, and so he takes revenge on the criminals, by any means necessary.  Yes, The Punisher kills his enemies, so I guess that makes him more of an antihero. Is Castle going to set the storyline for Season 2?  The Punisher has tried to kill the Kingpin several times in the comics.  When Daredevil defeated the Kingpin in Season 1, he simply turned him over to the police.  The Punisher is sure to try a different route in Season 2.

A recent report from Vine Report also talked to the former showrunner Steven DeKnight.  He is pretty glad that Season 2 will have The Punisher, and that putting him on will allow the Marvel Cinematic Universe to embrace the character's source material roots.  Marvel states that Jon Bernthal, an actor best known for his roles on The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury, and TV's The Walking Dead, has been cast as The Punisher.  For those who are unaware of this character, he is one of Marvel's most popular superheroes, but he definitely delves into some villain territory.

In fact, some recent set photos of Bernthal as The Punisher have begun appearing.  Yahoo News shows Bernthal fighting a lot of people, and his face is seriously cut up.  Since filming of the show is progressing, it is probably that Season 2 will show up in early 2016, or maybe even earlier.
