‘Doctor Strange’ Release Date and Teaser Trailer; How Can This be Called ‘The End of Atheism’?

Doctor Strange, coming to theaters on November 4, 2016.  Coming Soon

Almost everything Marvel touches turns to gold as it took five obscure space superhero characters with Guardians of the Galaxy and made them into a hit.  The following summer it brought Ant-Man, a superhero who isn't exactly a household name, to the big screen for another hit.  Now it is bringing another well-known character but obscure to the non-comic-book crowd with Doctor Strange.  This is what is known about Doctor Strange's Release Date and new Teaser Trailer, and why some are calling this "the end of atheism".

Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, and the actor has had quite a career in the last few years with playing Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness, Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, and still making time to play Sherlock.  He's probably one of the best choices for the role as Doctor Strange has to be mysterious and somewhat pompous, which are two characteristics that Cumberbatch has, in spades.  Cumberbatch has been making the rounds on social media with him in the Sorcerer Supreme's outfit complete with red cloak, even going to comic book stores and purchasing Doctor Strange comics in costume.

Naturally, there was a lot of buzz when a teaser trailer for Doctor Strange showed up, and you can view it for yourself below.  The trailer shows a brilliant surgeon with gifted hands who has recently been in a car accident, and now the doctor is a patient as his hands have been ruined.  The good doctor decides to head to the east where he will soon embrace the mystical arts with the Ancient One (played by a bald Tilda Swinton).

The trailer shows Rachel McAdams, who is a character that is yet unnamed, as even the film's imdb page doesn't have her character name.  IO9 speculates that she is Linda Carter aka the Night Nurse (a different Night Nurse than the character Rosario Dawson has portrayed on Daredevil and Jessica Jones, two Netflix shows both set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe).  Some say that she is Clea, who eventually married Doctor Strange in the comics.

Like McAdams, Mads Mikkelson is another actor with an unknown character name, so he could be the main villain, which could very well be the famed Dread Dormammu from the comic book source material.  This villain was known for having his head in perpetual flame, which could be a difficult effect to accomplish, and would be a huge giveaway on the current teaser trailer.  Perhaps he will be revealed on the next official trailer.  The trailers does show Chiwetel Ejiofor as the role of Baron Mordo, who isn't exactly a villain but not quite a hero.

So it looks like audiences will be on a supernatural trip when Doctor Strange is released into theaters on November 4, 2016.  It is strange to see that iDigitalTimes calls the teaser trailer "the end of atheism", but it looks to me that Doctor Strange is the beginning of some kind of form of the occult.  Considering that a lot of Marvel/Netflix shows have been taking an Eastern Mysticism turn like Season 2 of Daredevil and the upcoming Iron Fist, it will be interesting to see what direction Doctor Strange will go.
