After a 16-week absence following his son’s death, Rick Warren will return to preach at Saddleback Church on the weekend of July 27th; meanwhile, “Duck Dynasty’s” Alan and Phil Robertson are scheduled to speak at the church this weekend.
The Season Finale for the A&E Network television show “Duck Dynasty” had over 9.5 million viewers in April. The show stars the Robertson family, who invented the Duck Commander and sells other duck hunting products as well. The family is now also known for their full beards, a quirky sense of humor, and their faith in Jesus Christ.
Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the family, says he came to know Christ at the age of 28. He played college football at Louisiana Tech University and rejected an offer to play for the Washington Redskins because it would interfere with Duck hunting season. He and his wife later took a leap of faith to pursue his unique duck calling invention, and Phil attributes his success to the Lord. “God was right all along – ‘love Me, trust Me, work hard, do what is right, and I will bless you’ … that’s what happened,” he said in a short testimony produced by LifeWay Christian Stores.
Phil’s oldest son Alan recently left his pastoral position to join Season Four of “Duck Dynasty” where he hopes to make an impact for the Kingdom of God. The Robertsons will speak to the Californian church about how following Christ affects every area of a believer’s life. Saddleback Church will also host a beard contest that weekend, where the Most Magnificent and Most Pathetic Beard winners will be awarded $100.
“Hollywood has run up on the Kingdom of God – they don’t know this, but I know it,” said Phil with confidence. He summarized his perspective on life and faith - “The bottom line is, we all die, so Jesus is the answer.” Pastor Rick Warren plans to return to his teaching position at Saddleback the following weekend.
