As the ninth season of Duck Dynasty is about to start Jan. 13, the life of one of the famed family members is now destined to change. Jase and Missy Robertson's eldest son, Reed, proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Brighton Thompson, while on a Christmas trip to New York City. Reed is 20 years old, and Brighton is 19.  

Robertson announced the engagement on Instagram. They reportedly have been dating for four years.

"I couldn't be more excited to marry this amazing woman," Robertson wrote next to a photo of himself handing her a ring.

"My fiancé is a babe in every way."

Thompson added in her own post: "This is my fiancé Reed, he told me he loves me so much he's giving me his last name. And I said YES!"

While in Central Park,  Robertson got down on one knee, and popped the question with a 3-carat stone that had been an heirloom in the Thompson family.

"I wanted to do it before Christmas because I knew she thought it was happening then, and I wanted to make sure she was surprised," Robertson told People magazine.

"We are so excited to start our lives and our family together as we enjoy this unforgettable period of time."

The couple designed the one-of-a-kind ring setting together in Nashville this past fall, but Thompson didn't see the finished product until Robertson stunned her in the park on Dec. 22, reports People. The couple enjoys New York City, and said they hope to live there one day.

Thompson is from Rayville, La., and attends Harding University. Robertson is from Monroe, La.

Reed's cousin, John Luke Robertson, was recently married immediately after high school graduation, just like his parents, Willie and Korie, who also attended college as a married couple.

Reed has appeared in "Duck Dynasty" periodically, but not to the point that John Luke and Sadie Robertson have been featured. Reed is a football player, and he also enjoys singing. His vocals have been featured in a few episodes of the show, sometimes playing an instrument or singing with his mother Missy.
