First US Ebola Virus Diagnosis Confirmed at Texas Presbyterian Health Hospital in Dallas

It has been confirmed that the man travelling from Liberia who had checked himself into Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas was tested positive for the Ebola Virus Disease. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have given the hospital strict guidelines to follow and will host a press conference at 4:30 p.m. CST.

Although the infected man on the commercial airline was asymptomatic, he was running a high fever and vomiting when admitted to the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. The patient was placed into "strict isolation" at the hospital and was tested for Ebola, which has killed more than 3,000 people in West African countries.

Earlier this morning, the CDC considered the man to be at "low risk" for having contracted the Ebola virus, and it was thought that he might have been infected with malaria.

The isolation unit at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is said to be less advanced as the facilities at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, and members of the CDC are on their way to the hospital to help contain the virus. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas released a statement saying that it has followed all of the recommendations of the CDC to help safeguard hospital staff, patients, and visitors against the spread of the virus.

A representative at the hospital said that the CDC will hold a news conference at 4:30 p.m. CST.
