Two contestants on American Idol are gaining attention not just for their talent but for their outspoken Christian faith. Seventeen-year-old Canaan James Hill and 25-year-old Breanna Nix have used their time on the show to glorify God in both word and song.
Hill, an aspiring preacher from Alabama, moved audiences and judges alike with a stirring performance of “Goodness of God.” Judge Luke Bryan even remarked that Hill “baptizes [him] every time he sings.” Hill consistently selects gospel songs, viewing each performance as an act of worship rather than entertainment.
Nix, a mother of two from Texas, made her faith clear from the beginning. In her audition, she sang “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” and described her journey to the stage as “divine intervention.” Her identity as a Christian country artist is reflected in both her music and her message.
Their spiritual presence was especially felt during the show’s Easter episode, where Christian themes were brought to the forefront. According to CP, Carrie Underwood, a judge and outspoken believer, played a key role in advocating for the faith-based segment, supporting the inclusion of gospel performances despite some internal pushback.
Both Hill and Nix have advanced to the Top 10. Regardless of the final outcome, they are already making a lasting impact—reminding viewers across the country of the power of faith in the public square.
