When it comes to certain TV series or franchises, it does look as though there is plenty going for it -- with many more years left in the bag to boot. After all, if viewers have not gotten sick and tired of said TV series, why pull the plug on it? AMC knows just how much of a money maker ‘The Walking Dead’ is, which is why they have decided to approve the renewal of “Fear the Walking Dead” for a fourth successive season. What is new in the fourth season?
Well, we have received word that both Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, who starred in “Once Upon a Time”, have jumped aboard this particular zombie drama as they play the roles of co-showrunners. The person whose task they are taking over? Dave Erickson, who had already left earlier last month.
Chambliss and Goldberg gushed about their upcoming roles, saying, “We are thrilled to be joining ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ and couldn’t be more excited to work alongside the wonderful team at AMC on this show. We love this universe and are truly honored to have the chance to contribute to it.”
According to Scott M. Gimple, who is the executive producer and showrunner of “The Walking Dead,” is also the executive producer of “Fear the Walking Dead.” Joel Stillerman, who happens to be the president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, shared, “We’re very excited to continue the journey of ‘Fear The Walking Dead,’ and truly look forward to working with the talented team of Andrew Chambliss, Ian Goldberg, and Scott Gimple.”
To have a fourth season of Fear the Walking Dead might come across as a surprise to some, taking into consideration how the third season saw a steep decline in its ratings. In fact, it averaged a 1.83 rating in the 18-49 demo with 4.19 million viewers, based on what Nielsen served up for its live-plus-same day numbers. Other discouraging figures for the third season included being down 52% in the demo as well as 45% in viewers from the previous season. What might sound like all doom and gloom is not the case though, as those figures still managed to make Fear the Walking Dead the second highest rated original scripted series for AMC. Isn’t that interesting to take note of?
Some of the other names associated with Fear the Walking Dead which would be familiar to many fans of The Walking Dead series include Robert Kirkman, who is the executive producer, alongside the likes of Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, Erickson and Gimple. If there is one thing that continues to be a permanent fixture on TV screens as well as at the cinema, it would be viewers’ fixation on the morbid topic of death and the undead. Vampires, werewolves, mummies, and ever faster and more intelligent zombies tend to end up as top draws, what with the advanced capabilities of CGI churning out some pretty realistic scenes to boot.
