Square Enix is really making a bet on one of their franchises with Final Fantasy. This video game franchise has been around for decades, and it will have a new offering with Final Fantasy 15 coming in the fall. In addition to the new offering, Square Enix is going to re-release Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age as well. This is what we know about the release dates of the games, as well as what will be announced at E3 2016.
According to DNA India, there will be a new version of 2006's Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. It will build upon the improved International edition of the game that was released in 2007. It is the only non-HD mainline game it hasn't re-released.
According to Destructoid, there will be revamped character models and cutscenes, but the game will feature auto-save, shorter load times, a re-recorded soundtrack, as well as an improved turbo mode. So far, the release date is set in Japan sometime in the year 2017.
It is odd that Square Enix made the announcement ahead of time before E3 2016. For those that are not into video games, E3 is a big video game convention held every year at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and E3 2016 will officially take place on June 14-16.
The hype for Square Enix will focus primarily on Final Fantasy 15, which will have its release date on September 30, 2016. Attendees will be pleased to see that the game will have an astounding open world, one that will be gradually revealed to the player as they slowly progress. Movie News Guide also reveals that this is going to be an RPG rather than an action game, with different levels and difficulty settings that gamers will be glad to see.
Other small details have been revealed about the game, such as the player can travel with Chocobos or the Regalia, the car belonging to Noctis, the protagonist of the game.
Square Enix is trying not to reveal too much about the game, but the hype for it is quite great. In addition to the game itself, and the fact that it will probably have a PS4 bundle for it, it will have a movie and an animated video series associated with it.
It doesn't look like Square Enix will have any kind of big presentation planned for E3 2016, as many companies will. You can see a full list of the planned conferences here, but it is possible that the video game company will reveal more information of Kingdom Hearts 3, another big franchise that needs a new offering, but it doesn't have a confirmed release date. It is possible that the game could be scheduled for a 2017 release.
