It would be mad of Disney not to come up with a sequel to their smash hit Frozen, and hence, we are pleased as punch to bring you word that the wintry world of Frozen is about to get a sequel. Well, what will it be called? Nothing too fancy, really, as everything is straight to the point -- and Frozen 2 would be the upcoming movie name which is slated to hit the silver screen in 2018.
That would mean five years after the hit Disney animated feature film that featured Kristen Bell’s voice made millions and millions of dollars for the movie studio, not to mention saw a generation of children who grew up with the song “Let It Go” stuck in their psyches permanently. Kristen Bell has revealed that voice recording sessions would begin in March next year, although the whole cast has not been gathered in one place just yet. It seems that there is still some bit of polishing required for the script, and voice recording sessions before March would be unlikely.
Well, it has been three years already since Frozen appeared on the cinema screen and took the world by storm, so there is no real rush for Frozen 2. After all, Rome was not built in a day, and so too, will Frozen 2 require a longer time than other movies if it were to be good. The other voice actors from the first Frozen such as Idina Menzel and Josh Gad are said to work together for an Olaf special that is set to be released not this year, but rather, next Christmas.
Bell mentioned to Collider, "At the change of season at the parks, whether it's for Disneyland, Epcot, or when Japan opens, we will record new voices for our characters, but we actually haven't started recording for the second Frozen. But what we have been working on is an Olaf Christmas special that we're doing for next year."
As for the plot details of Frozen 2, everything has remained solidly, er, frozen under the surface. In other words, nothing is known about it, although whispers in the industry have pointed to at least a couple of rewrites in the script. There is also the idea put forward to Disney to have Queen Arendelle turn into a lesbian princess, and to provide her female love interest a platform to break new ground in the movie industry business. Do you think that Disney is willing to take up that thought and act on it, which will definitely split opinion right down the middle for most societies?
What is confirmed, however, is the fact that directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will continue to direct Frozen 2, so we will simply have to wait for the calendar to go through a couple more cycles thereabouts before we will be able to have Frozen 2 and whatever theme song it will showcase imprinted onto our minds. It would be interesting to see what kind of box office receipts can Frozen 2 draw when that day dawns.
