'Frozen 2' Release Date, Plot Rumors and News Update

Queen Elsa and Princess Anna will return for "Frozen 2"

It was pretty clear that Disney had something huge with the release of Frozen, and no animated film since the early nineties had captured its magic.  Of course, with such a huge hit like that, it is no wonder that Disney green-lit a sequel.  Fans of the original movie will be pleased to see Anna, Elsa, and Olaf again, but what is in store for Frozen 2?  This is the latest for Frozen 2 news and rumors, as well as a projected Release Date.

Original Frozen directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are on deck and prepared to direct the sequel.  According to The Master Herald, Buck has shared that the overall theme and idea for the sequel had already been formalized, but the producers are hard at work to craft the whole plot because they want the sequel to give a more meaningful message to its audience.

Apparently, the creative team behind Frozen 2 really wants to create a significant story by tackling social issues that today's generation can relate to.  Considering that the Arendale sisters are significantly marketed and are seen as role models, this is an interesting idea.

As far as the cast is concerned, the original voice actors should be back with Idina Menzel playing Elsa, Kristen Bell as Anna, Jonathan Groff and Kristoff, and Josh Gad as the talking snowman Olaf.  Even Eva Bella, who voiced the younger Elsa, is confirmed.

This casting of the younger Elsa has led many to speculate that Frozen 2 will focus more on Elsa rather than Anna.  Considering that Elsa was a sympathetic villain, it would be interesting to see how her character grows as the hero of the film.

If the ending of Frozen 2 has already been decided, hopefully that is perfect enough for fans.  I have not heard any suggestion of a "tacked-on trilogy", but if the writers plan it out right, there is no reason why Frozen 2 could easily bloom into a Frozen 3.  This would mean that Frozen 2 would end on a cliffhanger if Disney had planned it this far.

In the meantime, the Internet is ablaze with other theories as to what Frozen 2 will be about.  Most are based on speculation of concepts not explained in the original film.  The other theory going around is that Elsa might find a love interest, and some new "fun" side of Elsa will happen.

For example, it is not told where Elsa's powers come from, and since she has powers, why doesn't Anna have any?  According to Vine Report, Chris Buck has acknowledged that Anna's superpower is love.

As far as speculation is concerned, here's something that was not dealt with at the end of Frozen: Hans.  He ended up being a bad guy at the end of the first Frozen film, and he could return.  He could be reformed, so that he would be helping Elsa and Anna.  It would be pretty funny if he turned out to be pretending to be reformed and end up being a bad guy once again.  That would be another twist.

Expect to see Frozen 2 in theaters sometime in 2018.  If you are wanting more of that Frozen Fever, then you should just buy the live-action Cinderella movie on sale now on Blu-ray and DVD, which contains the "Frozen Fever" short film.
