Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green Arrested on Assault Charges

Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors was arrested in Michigan over the weekend due to assault charges. According to police reports, the NBA superstar got involved in an altercation with another man.

Initially, the East Lansing Police Department did not confirm if Green was arrested, but noted that an active NBA player got involved in a fight. However, the arrest report posted online confirmed that Green was the professional basketball player who got arrested.

ESPN confirmed that the incident occurred at around 2:30 am on Sunday at a restaurant at East Lansing. Although details of the fight were not unveiled, police officers told the sports news site that Green and another unidentified man got into an altercation while inside the restaurant.

They also said the Green was released after settling a $200 bond.

"It was basically an altercation between two guys," a spokesperson for the East Lansing Police Department told ESPN. "There's no injuries. He was released with a $200 bond on Sunday."

According to the San Francisco Gate, Green allegedly slapped a male restaurant patron who was taunting him. Although a call to the police was not made, officers were already on scene since it was part of their patrol.

Green's arraignment is scheduled on July 20, which is just two days before he joins Team USA to take on Argentina in a tune-up game for the Olympics. There's a chance he might lose his spot on the team if he gets convicted of assault and battery. Furthermore, if found guilty, Green could get sentenced to 93 days in jail with a fine of $500, according to NBA.com.

Jerry Colangelo, the managing director for USA Basketball, said he and the committee are still looking into the matter and awaiting further details.

The Warriors, too, declined to provide a detailed comment on the matter and noted that they are still compiling information regarding the incident.

"At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation," the Golden State franchise said in a statement.
