Google has recently revamped its Pixel range of devices, making it exclusive for the use of their smartphones and smartphones alone. The Pixel name will no longer be limited to just a Chromebook, but has made the jump over to the world of smartphones -- and placed right at the very pinnacle as a start. One thing is for sure, the Pixel and Pixel XL are no shrinking violets when it comes to flagship smartphones, and less than a year since the Pixel and Pixel XL were released, here we are with more word on what the upcoming sequel, the Pixel 2, will be like.
Back on October 4 last year, Google made an announcement concerning its latest in-house smartphone, where it was designed by Google themselves. The result was the Pixel and Pixel XL which were more than decent to look at, and performed well for an Android-powered device. One of the major selling points of these two devices is the fact that it comes with a fantastic camera and carries the distinction of having the latest version of Android at all times. However, there is nothing perfect in this world, and so too, do the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones come with their own share of negatives. Not only were they considered to be priced more than what it should, it also falls short in terms of features when compared to what Samsung has on offer with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Well, fast forward to today, there are high expectations on what the Google Pixel 2 will be like.
Possible Pixel 2 features
What are some of the features that smartphone users would like to see in the new Google Pixel 2 smartphone? Why, waterproof capability would definitely be one of them, as this would allow the Pixel 2 to compete with the likes of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 as well as its previous generation champion, the water resistant iPhone 7 Plus, and other waterproof devices. Better AI functionality is also another aspect that folks would like to see make an appearance on the Google Pixel 2. While we are at it, why not ensure that the Pixel 2 does not need to make a beeline to the nearest power outlet all too often?
Codenames Walleye and Muskie spotted
Word on the street -- or the Android Open Source Collaboration, in particular, claims that Google has been working on not one, but a couple of new pet projects where smartphones are concerned, calling them Walleye and Muskie as codenames. These are the names of different kinds of fish, just like how Marlin and Sailfish saw action in helping the masses figure out just what the Pixel and Pixel 2 are. Google has revealed very, very little -- if at all, information concerning the alleged Pixel 2, and apart from Walleye and Muskie, there is not much to work on from this angle.
The 12.3-megapixel camera should no longer be there as well, but replaced, and we would most probably see a higher degree of resolution or better low light performance in order to maintain its competitive advantage over the other smartphones. The Snapdragon 830 range should also see a debut, just as much as there might be an Intel-powered chipset appearing, too.
One thing that would certainly disappoint the masses is the possibility of Google increasing the Pixel 2’s price tag by a minimum of $50 upon its release, placing even more financial burden on those who would love to remain on the cutting edge of technology. Well, we simply need to wait until this autumn in order to figure out what exactly will the Pixel 2 deliver.
